Personal Life

His father Albert Lincoln Roker Sr. is of Bahamian descent and his mother Isabel is of Jamaican descent. He attended Xavier High School in Manhattan and later he attended the State University of New York at Oswego and earned his degree in BA in communications.

Career

Roker started his career in 1974 as a weather anchor for CBS affiliate WHEN-TV in Syracuse, New York, and worked there for two years, while he was enrolled at SUNY Oswego. After completing his studies, Roker moved to Washington, D.C., and took a weather casting position at independent station WTTG, and also worked there for 2 years.

In 1978, Roker’s started working for NBC where he was hired at WKYC in Cleveland, then an NBC owned-and-operated station. After spending five years in Cleveland, Roker was promoted to the network’s flagship outlet, WNBC-TV in his hometown. During the late 1980s, Roker returned to New York City as a weekend weathercaster, and within the time period of eight months became the station’s regular weeknight weathercaster. In 2005, Roker reported from inside Hurricane Wilma.

On November 12, 2012, in addition to his role as Today Show weatherman and anchor, Roker co-hosted the third hour of Today called Today’s Take.
