Illinois lawmakers are asking the auditor general to explain his use of campaign cash.   The actions happened when he was a state representative. 20 republicans signed the letter. They say the people of Illinois are tired of the many corruption scandals they’ve had to endure in recent years. This is the third letter sent to Auditor General Frank Mautino’s office. The Better Government Association discovered he spent $95,000 for repayment of loans and interest between 1999 and 2015. They say his campaign committee spent nearly $250,000 for car repairs and gas at a single service station in those years. Republicans who signed the letter say the state deserves answers.   “This was a position that was hired by the general assembly and so our responsibility as I look at. When new news comes out about something in particular we have the responsibility to look into it further,” said Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez,(R) Springfield.   Just last fall Mautino was appointed to a 10-year term  as auditor general. His office says they’ll review the letter and provide a prompt response.
