Dad is starving himself to death... please help

Hi everyone,

Dad was admitted to hospital 4 weeks ago with a UTI. He seemed to be getting better but now he is point blank refusing to eat. He is effectivelty starving himself to death and not only is it killing him, its killing me as I feel so helpless. I have tried everything! all the food he used to like but he isnt interested.

His kidneys arent working correctly but the hospital have said if he was to eat he would get better!! There is just no getting through to him and its truly breaking my heart... He is so depressed and wont make eye contact with me and hardly responds to me - only to say 'no you have it' whenever I offer him food... I broke down last night and cried in front of him and he ate half a cracker...

I'm not sure if he is making a concious decision to give up or whether its his illness taking over? the really strange this is that he has moments of real clarity and makes the most sense he has made for at least a year!! My mum died of cancer and I nursed her but the cancer was killing her, she had no control, but Dad is starving himself to death and there is something he can do, but he wont... they cant give him a feeding tube for fear of him pulling it out of his nose! he's on IV fluids.

Please help me help my Dad... I have no one to talk to and I cant sleep/eat as I am distraught.
