Learn about the importance of leadership skills at a Lunch-n-Learn from Toastmasters.

Esprit de Corps Toastmasters is hosting a meeting for networking and a presentation from Scott Harris, Chief of Contracting Division with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, on the importance of communication and leadership skills for professionals.

The meeting will be on Wednesday, March 13 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Rock Island Arsenal, Clock Tower Building Complex, 1500 Rock Island Lane. The first half hour of the meeting is formatted, while the second half hour is open for networking and discussion. Refreshments will be served. The meeting will be online via WebEx. Email Mike Cox at for more information.

“Esprit de Corps Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to develop their communication and leadership skills,” said Mike Cox, Club President for Toastmasters club 5999.

There will be an impromptu speaking event called Table Topics for members and guests after Harris’ presentation. Dale Coparanis will serve as the Table Topics Master.

“Table Topics are one of my favorite parts of the meeting,” said Coparanis. “This is where guests and members are randomly selected to speak for one to two minutes. It helps you think and speak clearly on your feet.”

Toastmasters Club 5999 meets each first and third Wednesdays of each month at the Rock Island Arsenal, usually at the Clock Tower Complex and online. Click here for more information about the presentation or the club. Click here for more information on Toastmasters.
