With the holiday now in full swing, many are wondering whether their trash and recycling will be picked up on Presidents Day 2023.

Since 1879 Americans have celebrated the holiday known as Presidents Day. Originally just in honor of George Washington, the federal holiday has gone on to encompass all presidents, from past to present.

Many states celebrate Presidents Day, with various services closed or operating at reduced hours. Here’s everything you need to know about trash collection services over the holiday.

Does trash pickup come on Presidents Day 2023?

Across the majority of the US, there will be no trash or recycling pick-up on Monday, February 20.

Many cities like New York have no scheduled trash or recycling collection for several public holidays, including Presidents Day.

The Department Of Sanitation NYC has confirmed its sanitation holidays on its website.

The department outlines the usual procedure citizens should follow if the holiday occurs on their usual trash collection day. All items ready for collection should be put out after 4 pm that day, for pickup at the start of the following day.

Although, not every city’s waste services are postponed for the holiday.

The city of Pheonix and its Public Works staff will be operating as normal throughout Presidents Day, with trash and recycling collections functioning as scheduled.

However, it should be noted that city disposal facilities will be closed to the public over the holiday.

Much like many trash collections across the US, other services and companies are closed on Presidents Day. Various schools, banks, and post offices shut down in celebration of the holiday.

How to find out if your trash collection is affected

The most useful way to find out if your local trash and recycling pickup service is operating during Presidents Day is to visit your local county’s website.

Many counties have their yearly holiday schedules available online, as well as important information about public services.

Many cities, like Worcester, have official social media accounts.

Not only do they post updates, but citizens can also contact them via Twitter with queries about trash collection.
