HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A man from Oswego, Illinois was charged with Forgery in connection to an investigation involving counterfeit $20 bills used as payment at multiple businesses in the North Park area in Evansville.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on December 6, police were dispatched to multiple businesses on north First Avenue after it was reported that two unknown suspects passed counterfeit $20 bills at each location. Upon examining security footage at the locations, officers determined the same two suspects were involved in each instance.
Authorities identified a possible suspect vehicle, and located the vehicle’s owner on Facebook. Police say the vehicle’s owner had a Facebook friend, identified as Campanella Ford III, 28, who matched the description of one of the two suspects in the case.
Police also say they matched the description of another man who was visible on Ford’s friend list to the second suspect in the case. The second suspect, Isiah Holt, was reportedly arrested in Cedar Falls, Iowa, five days after police say he was in Evansville on charges of forgery.
Ford was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on Tuesday on multiple counts of forgery. He is being held on a $1,000 bond. Evansville Police Sergeant Anna Gray says Holt will eventually be extradited to Vanderburgh County.
Evansville Police say at least 78 counterfeit $20 bills were passed at more than 32 Evansville businesses on December 6.
