Plano, TX – The community of Plano, Texas and beyond mourns the unexpected passing of Evan Robinson, a beloved PSA basketball referee, who left this world on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the young age of 18. Evan, known for his compassionate and respectful nature, leaves behind a legacy of kindness and warmth.

Evan was born on May 18, 2005, in Dallas, Texas, to Paul Robinson and Nancy Obels. He resided in Plano with his mother and older brother Liam. A recent graduate of Plano West, class of 2023, he embarked on the next chapter of his academic journey at the University of North Texas, majoring in logistics and distribution with a minor in sports management. Evan was deeply engaged in his studies, showing a genuine enthusiasm for his classes at the Frisco Landing campus.

His love for basketball and sports in general was evident throughout his life. Evan’s engagement in basketball began four years ago as a scorekeeper and later as a referee for PSA. He was selected to train new referees and was recognized for his dedication, leading to a supervisory role at the McKinney Recreation Center. Evan also contributed his talents to the North Texas Basketball Officials Association (NTBOA). His ability to balance education and work showcased his dedication to both aspects of life.

In addition to his dedication to sports, Evan was known for his exceptional work ethic in various roles, including at Frisco Red Lobster and HEB. He was praised for his hard work, attention to customers, and the quality of service he provided.

Evan was more than his accomplishments; he was a joyous soul with an infectious sense of humor. He effortlessly connected with people, leaving a positive impact wherever he went. Whether it was a sports mission or a work assignment, Evan approached every task with care and responsibility.

Evan’s passing has left a void in the lives of those who knew him, but his memory will forever remain a bright light in their hearts. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Obels, and older brother, Liam, along with numerous family members, friends, and his cherished furry companion, Bogey.

A celebration of Evan’s life will be held at a later date in November, allowing family and friends to come together to remember the fine young man he was—compassionate, responsible, courteous, loving, and respectful to others. As we honor Evan’s memory, let us celebrate the joy and warmth he brought into our lives.
