The Bluntman and Chronic comic is a big part of Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse, but how many Jay and Silent Bob movies have they actually appeared in? Jay and Silent Bob – played by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith, respectively – first appeared in Clerks, Smith’s 1994 directorial debut that established his ear for quotable dialogue. Clerks ended up being the first entry in Smith’s View Askewniverse series, which also featured arguably his most acclaimed film, which is 1997’s Chasing Amy. The latter movie also established Jay and Silent Bob as the inspiration behind the Bluntman and Chronic comic.

While Smith has returned to his View Askewniverse over the years, he’s branched out into other genres. He made a studio comedy with Cop Out – where he famously had a bad time working with star Bruce Willis – and made a straight-up body horror movie with Tusk. Smith has also worked on various superhero TV shows like The Flash and Supergirl. He returned to his most iconic stoner duo with 2019’s cameo-filled Jay And Silent Bob Reboot, though they will feature in the upcoming Clerks III as well.

As mentioned previously, Jay and Silent Bob served as the basis for the Bluntman and Chronic comic book. While the Batman and Robin-parodying superheroes are unlikely to receive a solo movie of their own, they have appeared on screen a few times over the years. The first time was in 2001’s Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, which revolves around the title duo trying to prevent a Bluntman and Chronic movie from being made. After sneaking on to the set and meeting the actors playing the roles – with Jason Biggs as Bluntman and James Van Der Beek as Chronic – they ended up dressed as Bluntman and Chronic and filming a fight scene with Mark Hamill’s villain.

Outside of the movies, there has been some additional merch for Bluntman and Chronic, including a comic. This, in turn, was adapted for 2013’s Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie! This animated adventure is the only Jay and Silent Bob movie not helmed by Smith and sees the pair win the lottery and decide to become superheroes. Despite boasting fun cameos from Stan Lee and author Neil Gaiman as Albert the Manservant, Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie! is typically considered the weakest of the franchise.

In Jay And Silent Bob Reboot, the Bluntman and Chronic comic was being rebooted as a gritty superhero movie dubbed Bluntman V Chronic. During the story, Jay and Silent Bob a scene from the blockbuster is shown in the movie, with Val Kilmer playing Bluntman and Melissa Benoist as Chronic. Despite being billed as a darker reboot, naturally, the two stoner superheroes aren’t actually shown fighting.
