Oommen Chandy’s Death

Oommen Chandy, Congress veteran and former Kerala chief minister died on 18 July 2023, at the age of 79, after a prolonged illness. He was a working Committee member of Congress and died in a hospital in Bengaluru on Tuesday morning.

The death of Oommen, who had been going through treatment for cancer since 2019, was declared by his son in a Facebook post at 4.30 am.

The Kerala Government has announced a 2-day mourning and public holiday in the state Tuesday.

The mortal remains of Oommen will be flown to Thiruvananthapuram, where his body will be kept at the Congress State Committee office and later at the Darbar Hall of the Secretariat for people to pay their homage.

His funeral services will be held on Thursday 20 July 2023 at Puthuppally in Kottayam.

Kerala’s current Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said Oommen was a capable administrator and one personally involved in people’s lives.
