Funny Hurricane Idalia memes are taking over Twitter as the tropical storm is expected to make landfall in Florida as a Category 3 later this week.

The National Hurricane Center said Idalia is going to “rapidly intensify” and could bring “extremely dangerous” and “life-threatening storm surge inundation”.

Hurricane swirls towards Florida

Storm Idalia strengthened to a hurricane early on Tuesday morning (August 29) with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.

In its latest update, the National Hurricane Center said the storm was around 85 miles north of the western tip of Cuba and 370 miles southwest of Tampa, Florida.

Hurricane warnings are in effect for parts of coastal Florida, with evacuation orders issued in some areas and landfall expected on Wednesday (August 30).

“So, this is going to be a major impact and Floridians should expect that this storm will be a major category three plus hurricane, so please prepare accordingly,” governor Ron DeSantis said.

The storm will bring heavy rain, strong winds and tornadoes which will likely cause flooding and destruction across the state.
