Geoffrey Holt Obituary – Cause of Death: New Hampshire man with no car and furniture leaves P211 million to town before dying.
Earlier this year, a man from New Hampshire passed away. He left his town of 4200 people $3.8 million (P211 million) in hidden life savings.
Geoffrey Holt passed away in June at the age of 82, according to the Associated Press. He led a modest existence as a caretaker of a mobile home park in the village of Hinsdale. Instead of driving a car, he taught high school students driver’s education and instead rode a bicycle and a mower.
In addition, Holt’s mobile home was mostly devoid of furniture and had neither a television nor a computer.
On the other hand, his will said that he wished to leave the town $3.8 million “to benefit the community in the areas of education, health, recreation, and culture.” Holt had no children.
The head of the town’s select board, Steve Diorio, who would periodically wave to Holt from his automobile, called the money “a tremendous gift.”
Diorio told AP, “I don’t think anyone had any idea that he was that successful.” “Even though he didn’t have many family members, leaving it to the town where he resided is a wonderful gift,”
Holt has a master’s degree and was a member of the US Navy. Prior to taking a job as a production manager at a grain mill, he briefly taught social studies. According to AP, Holt had already begun researching financial journals and investing his money at that point.
Holt’s 81-year-old sister Alison stated that he didn’t need much to be happy and didn’t want to make a big deal out of himself. According to Alison, he once turned down a promotion at the grain mill that would have needed moving.
“He would say, ‘Or you might get into trouble,'” Alison told AP, “and he always told me that his main goal in life was to make sure that nobody noticed.”
