The Iowa Hawkeyes announced on Monday that the Tigerhawk will make its debut at the 50-yard line of Kinnick Stadium this season.

As part of the ongoing turf replacement, the logo that has been part of Hawkeye football since 1979 will point south and face the west stands, nestled between the 45-yard lines. It will be black with a gold outline, much like the latest Tigerhawk at center court of Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

With the Tigerhawk front and center, it will be removed from the north endzone, where it shared space with “IOWA” for the past several years. Yard line numbers also will be changed to the university’s “Hawkeye font” on the new turf.

Previously, a block I appeared at the 50 from 1972 until 1980. Iowa opens the 2017 football season on Sept. 2 against Wyoming.

The Hawkeyes announced the move in a video narrated by Danan Hughes.

… Kirk Ferentz put a Tigerhawk on the field #Hawkeyes — Mia O’Brien (@MiaOBrienCBS2) June 12, 2017

LOVE IT. Only way this could be better is if the Tigerhawk was about 2x as large. — John Krzmarzick (@JohnKrzmarzick) June 12, 2017

Do you see a Tigerhawk here? No. Just wonderful wonderful astroturf that probably never should’ve been legal. — Mike (@mikjones24) June 12, 2017

… while others took the opportunity to offer alternatives:

Big news today out of Iowa City. Can’t believe the Hawkeyes are finally putting Kirk Ferentz’s salary details at midfield. — WRNL (@WideRtNattyLt) June 12, 2017

I’d rather see this at midfield of Kinnick — Dustin Schutte (@Schutte_B1GFB) June 12, 2017

And then some Hawkeye football fans think there is one more bit of unfinished business regarding a certain water tower overlooking Kinnick.

What about a tigerhawk, on a water tower, on the turf, at midfield? — Hawkeye Homer (@hawkeyehomer) June 13, 2017

One down, one to go. Now let’s get that TigerHawk on the water tower — Matt (@JustMatt014) June 12, 2017

2 common #Hawkeyes fan complaints solved in one crude photoshop. If they won’t put the Tigerhawk on the tower, just put both on the field… — HAWKMANIAQ, formerly (@Hawkologist) May 3, 2017
