You may find an occasion to create your own Facebook group. As a group’s creator, you’re by default the group administrator, which means that you write the group’s information, control its Privacy settings, and generally keep it running smoothly. You can also promote other members of the group to administrator. This grants them the same privileges so that they can help you with these responsibilities.

Here are the steps you follow to create a group:

1 Hover over the left side menu. When the menu expands, click See More beneath the list of your most common destinations on Facebook.

This expands the left menu to show all the groups you belong to.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

2 At the bottom of the list of groups, click Create Group.

The Create New Group window appears.

3 Enter a group name into the Group Name field. Type the names of people you want to add to the group.

At this time, you can add only friends as members. Facebook tries to autocomplete your friends’ names as you type. When you see the name you want, press Enter to select it. You can add as many — or as few — friends as you like. If you forget someone, you can always add him later.

4 Choose the privacy level for your group.

Groups have three privacy options:

Open: Open groups are entirely available to the public. Anyone can join simply by clicking a Join button; anyone can see all the content the group posts. This type of group is best for a very public organization that wants to make it easy for people to join and contribute.

Closed: By default, your group is set to Closed. This means that anyone can see the list of members, but only members can see the content posted to the group by its members. People can request to join the group, but admins (like you) need to approve those requests before the requesters can see group info.

Secret: Secret groups are virtually invisible on the site to people who haven’t been added to the group. No one except members can see the member list and the content posted.

People who have been added to the group can also add their friends, so if you’re protecting state secrets, you might want to find a more secure method.

5 Click Create.

The window changes to the icon selection window.

6 Choose an icon from the options and click the Okay button.

Facebook tries to provide an option for lots of common group types. If you can’t find anything that represents your group, click Skip.

After you choose your icon and click Okay, you’re taken to your group’s Home page.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

Facebook Groups are a great way for people with a common interest or who are members of the same club, society, or community to communicate. I’m in Groups for hobbies like Photography, but also for local things like the village I live in.

You’re probably already a member of a few Facebook Groups, but if you want to start your own, here’s how.

Open Facebook, click the downward facing arrow in the top right and select Create Group.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

Start by giving the Group a name. I’ve gone with Justin Pot Fan Club.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

Next, select who you want to invite to join. I’ve invited a few of my coworkers who I know are also big Justin Pot fans. Facebook will also suggest some Friends you might want to add.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

You also need to set the privacy for your Group. You have three options: Open, Closed, and Secret. In a Public Group, anyone can join whenever they want. Anyone can also see what members post in the group. In a Closed Group, anyone can ask to join, but they’ll need to be approved by another member to see posts—posts in Closed Groups are hidden from non-members. A Secret Group is even more private than a Closed Group. New people have to be invited by members. Only current and former members can even see it exists.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

Select the privacy setting that best suits your needs and click Create. I’ve gone with a Closed Group.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

Every Group needs an icon. This is what appears in the Facebook sidebar next to its name. Select one and click OK.

And that’s the Group created.

Now you can customize it to your liking. Add a Cover Photo, Description, Location, and Tags so people can see what it’s about. You can also invite more members if you want to.

That’s the Group up and ready for use. Now any member will be able to use it.

Looking to build your own Group on Facebook? Here are step-by-step tips for setting up your own social group.

Facebook is a social networking site (SNS) that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. These types of social networking sites are designed to build upon interactions to create communities of people online. The social networking site provides the required software to do this.

Facebook, in particular, offers a way for individuals to create a profile of themselves, then share that profile with other members of Facebook. It also provides a variety of ways for users to communicate with others using instant messaging and chat rooms, Facebook site mail, notes and blogs, file sharing, forums, discussion groups, videos, and so on.

What is a Facebook Group?

Facebook Groups are pages that you create within the Facebook social networking site that are based around a real-life interest or group or to declare an affiliation or association with people and things. With a Facebook Group, you are creating a community of people and friends to promote, share and discuss relevant topics. The types of groups people can join on Facebook are seemingly endless. Here’s how you can create your own group on Facebook.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

In creating a Facebook Group you need to first decide on a topic or idea to center the group around. This could be a geographical location, a business, a favorite product, an artist or anything that you want to create a group for. You can use the Facebook search box to see if a group with the same name or similar idea already exists.

Once you have decided on the topic, you can then create the Group page on Facebook by following steps:

1. Log in to your own Facebook account and clicking the Profile tab at the top of the page
2. Select the Info tab from within your Profile.
3. Scroll down to the Groups section and select See All.
4. When you click See All a new My Groups window will load that shows all the groups you have subscribed to, as well as any group news and invitations you have. Under the My Groups heading click the link to Create a New Group.

The Create a Group form is made up of three different steps:

1. Group Info: Here you will need to provide specific information about your Facebook Group including a Group Name, the Network (choose your own network location or Global which is available to all Facebook users), a description of the group, and a category. Optional Group Info details you can include are: recent news, office, e-mail and address details. Once you have filled out this form, click on Create Group. This will load the second screen, Customize.

2. Customize: This is where you will specify member options and settings for the group you have just created. If you have a picture you want to use to represent the Group you can upload it from this screen, and you can also specify an associated Web site URL. The options that appear on this page are common Facebook options. By selecting (or deselecting) the check boxes you can choose to show or not show the following on your own Group page: related groups, a discussion board, the Wall, Photos and Videos (with permission for Group members being allowed to upload to the Group page), and posted items. You also will need to choose a Group Access level (open lets anyone join, closed requires Group admins to approve requests to join, and secret, which will hide the group in searches and members can join by your invitation). Once you have set all the Group Options, you can only select Save at the bottom, which will open a window prompting you to publish the New Group news to your own profile. After you publish the Group news, the Member screen will load.

3. Members: The members page is where you can invite your Facebook friends to join your group, choose Group Officers, and see who is currently subscribed to your Facebook group. You can also invite people who are not on Facebook from this page by entering in their e-mail addresses in the form box, separated by commas.

Facebook Group Admin Options

After you have created your new Group, from the Group page, you’ll find options that you can access to maintain your Group page.

Message All Members lets you send a Facebook message to everyone subscribed to your Group

Edit Group lets you change the information you entered when creating your Group

Edit members lets you maintain your group members (same as screen above in step 3)

Edit Group Officers lets you select Group members to be Officers

Create Related Event lets you create an event associated for the group (for example if your Group was about a famous actor you could create an event for the time when a new movie he was in would be released).

Deleting Your Facebook Group

Facebook will automatically delete groups when they are empty, so if you decide that you do not want to keep the Group, you will need to remove all members from the group and then remove yourself.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

A Facebook Group is a place for group communication and for people to share their common interests and express their opinion. They let people come together around a common cause, issue or activity to organize, express objectives, discuss issues, post photos, and share related content. Anybody can set up and manage their own Facebook Group, and you can even join up to 6,000 other Groups.

Groups, as discussed below, are not the same as private group messaging used in Facebook Messenger.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

Quick Facts About Facebook Groups

Here are some short tidbits on how Facebook Groups work:

  • Any Facebook user can make a Group
  • Some Groups let anyone join but others might be private
  • When joining a Group, whether private or public, your Facebook friends might see that you’ve joined it
  • Some Groups are secret and can’t be searched for, in which case a qualifying Group member has to invite you
  • Leaving a Group will not notify the other members
  • Only the creator of the group and anyone they make an admin has the power to invite someone to a Group
  • You can create events, upload pictures/video and share files within a Group
  • Groups can be deleted by removing all the members

Facebook Pages vs. Groups

Groups on Facebook have undergone changes since they were first implemented. There was a time when Groups a user was a member of would appear on their own personal page. So, if you were in a Group called “Football Fans,” everyone who could see your profile would know this about you.

Now, however, those types of open forums are known as Pages, created by companies, celebrities, and brands to engage with their audience and post interesting content. Only administrators of Pages can post to the account, while those who like the Page can comment on any posts and pictures.

Your personal profile is what you use to engage with other users of Pages and Groups. Whenever you post something, you are posting with the name and photo of your profile.

Types of Facebook Groups

Unlike Facebook Pages that are always public, a Facebook Group doesn’t have to be. If you comment or like a Page, all of your information will be available to anyone on Facebook who looks at that Page.

So, if someone were to visit the NFL on CBS Facebook Page, they could see anyone who was commenting on a photo or discussing an article. This could cause some privacy concerns, especially if you do not have a solid understanding of how to protect your personal profile.

Closed Facebook Groups

A Group can be more private than a Page since the creator has the option to make it closed. When a Group is closed, only those who have been invited to the Group can see the content and information shared within it.

An example of a Group might be team members who are working on a project together and want to communicate with one another more efficiently.

By creating a Group, the team is given a private forum to share ideas on the project and post updates, just like with a Page. Still, all information is shared only with those within the Group once it’s made closed. Others will still be able to see that the Group exists and who are members, but they will not be able to see any posts or information within the closed Group unless they are invited.

Secret Facebook Groups

Even more private than the closed Group is the secret Group. This type of Group is exactly what you would expect it to be — secret. Nobody on Facebook can see a secret Group other than those in the Group.

This Group will not appear anywhere on your profile, and only those within the Group can see who the members are and what is posted. These Groups could be used if you are planning an event that you do not want somebody to know about, or if you just want a secure platform to talk with friends.

Another example might be a family who wants to share pictures and news with each other on Facebook but without other friends seeing everything.

Public Facebook Groups

The third privacy setting for a Group is public, meaning that anyone can see who is in the Group and what has been posted. Still, only members of the Group have the ability to post within it.

See this table from Facebook that shows some other details on how these privacy settings differ for each type of Facebook Group.

The Networking of Groups vs Pages

Another way Groups are different from Pages is that they work on smaller networks than the entire Facebook network. You can limit your Group to the network for your college, high school or company, as well as make it a Group for members of any network.

Also, while a Page can accumulate as many likes as possible, a group must be kept at 250 members or lower. This immediately forces Facebook Groups to be smaller than Pages.

Once inside the Group, Facebook works only slightly different than your profile. A Group does not use the timeline but rather displays posts in direct chronological order, similar to the pre-timeline manner.

Also, members of the Group can see who has seen a post, which is a unique feature for Group accounts. So, if you post a new idea for your Group’s project or publish something to your family’s Facebook Group, the read receipts let you see who has viewed it.

Another difference between joining a Group and liking a Page is the number of notifications that you receive. When in a Group, you’ll get notified each time someone posts, comments or likes. With a Page, however, it’s just when someone likes your comment or tags you in a comment that you’ll be told of it, much like with regular comments and likes on Facebook.

What Pages Have That Groups Do Not

A unique feature only offered in Pages is Page Insights. This allows the administrators of the Page to see what activity the Page has been receiving during a period of time, even in a graphical representation.

This is just one of the many ways Facebook Pages allow you to monitor the audience and how well your product or message is being received. These analytics are not offered, or needed, in Groups because they’re meant to communicate with a small, select number of people rather than a wide-scale audience.

Like it? Share it!

Are you looking to create a new group on Facebook? If yes, then perhaps the following article can be of some help.

It will be next to impossible that almost everyone you know has heard of the wonders of Facebook. And truth be told, there actually is so much to do here as well. With adding friends, sending messages, chatting, playing games, browsing profiles, etc., it is interesting to see how much can be done here. Along with all the things we just mentioned, Facebook also gives its users an option to create their own groups.

Would you like to write for us? Well, we’re looking for good writers who want to spread the word. Get in touch with us and we’ll talk.

There can be several reasons why you may be looking for information on creating a group on Facebook. Perhaps it’s to gather people with similar interests in music, movies, books, thoughts and ideas, opinions, letting people know of your new business/organization, small business, or any such interests.

There are times when you don’t wish to share everything or certain, important things with everyone on your friends’ list; this could include anything. A private group, where only a few selected people can access the information can be the right way to go. Making a group is very easy. All you need to do is follow the steps given below.

  • Before you begin, you will require a Facebook account. If you already have an active profile on the site, log in.
  • Go on your favorite search engine and type “Facebook group” and click on the Facebook link provided.
  • Another way to reach this page is by going to your “My Groups” page right on Facebook.
  • Once you reach this page, you will have to select the option “Create Group”.
  • Click on this button, which is on the bottom of the My Groups page, on the left site.
  • First, you will require a photo for your group. Select one that identifies best with what the group is going to focus on (no copyright infringement).
  • Next comes the part where you will have to include a detailed information on what the group is all about.
  • You will have to select the exact category your group is associated with. This way, people who find those groups interesting will be able to find you.
  • In the end, you will send out invitations to people you want to be members of this group.

Even though, at this stage, your group isn’t completely finished, the basic or you can say that the initial phase is over. After the initial few steps are over, the next you need to decide is whether your groups is going to Open (anyone can join the group), Closed (only you or other administrators of the group can approve group members), or a Secret (only people who have got an invite can join) to friends and public.

These three options will help you manage the group properly. After you have made your selection, save your work and a box will appear. It will ask you whether you wish to “Publish” your group onto your profile page. Select the “Publish” option and your group will have been successfully created.

A lot of people have a group on Facebook for people who share common interests. For example, if you are learning how to play the guitar and are looking for notations on one of the song, you can join a group made for guitar players and ask the question and find your answers. Secondly, it is used for people bringing together the people of one institution, whether it is a workplace or a college, and makes it easier for them to communicate with each other. Thirdly, it can also be a platform for a celebrity to communicate with his or her fans and get important reviews from them about his or her work.

Creating groups can help you share a variety of ideas, thoughts, opinions, and information to maximum number of people. And the best part is, since the members have voluntarily joined the group, you know that they care about the same things too. While you, the administrator can control who can see the group, this doesn’t mean that the members of the group can’t share some information as well.

With the help of posts on the Wall, the group can stay active with regular updates, polls, pictures, events, questions, links, videos, and so much more. Members can even chat amongst each other, share documents, and stay connected. You can even edit the group’s information and description that accurately meets the purpose of the group.

Constant interactions between group members is what will keep the group popular. Also, this means more and more people will want to join it too (if it is public or even closed group). Now a small piece of information before we wrap this article up. Since you are the one who has created the group, there is an option of “Leave Page”, but that is generally for other members of the group.

Would you like to write for us? Well, we’re looking for good writers who want to spread the word. Get in touch with us and we’ll talk.

Do you want to know how to make a group on facebook? Then keep reading as we will be going to discuss each and every step to create a facebook group and how you can get the benefit from this feature which was not made popular by Facebook but could have many advantages for an individual as well as for business.

WHAT IS A FACEBOOK GROUP?

Before we learn how to create a group on facebook let’s know about what is a facebook group. It’s a kind of a circle of people with similar interests.

You cannot just add any other individual as your friend on facebook as it is your personal profile and you may or may not want others to check out your profile to maintain a certain level of privacy and also there is a limitation of adding 5000 friends on facebook and if you add those number of friends on facebook then it would be very difficult for you to maintain your timeline because then you will be going to see a lot of unwanted posts on your news feed.

On the other hand, a facebook group could have any number of participants and it is completely voluntary to be added or exit.

One of the biggest benefits of Facebook groups is that you could connect with people of similar interests and would be able to share your views and thoughts through your posts so that other people added in those group could see and share your posts.

Many people and businesses tend to create facebook groups on different topics like “Travelling”,” Business”,” Education”,” Products” Photography”,” Books”,” Shopping”,” Sports”,” Support Groups” etc.

You think of any random topic and you will find a related one, all you need is just log in to your Facebook profile and search a topic on the search bar and select any of the related group under the group’s tab and click “join” to join that group.

HOW TO CREATE A GROUP ON FACEBOOK

Facebook groups are free to join and the best part is that you could also create your own Facebook Group related to your interests and attracts the audience to join that group. Here we will be going to discuss the step by step process on how to create a group on facebook.

  • In order to create a Facebook Group, you need to first login to your Facebook profile by entering your email id/phone number and password if you already have a facebook profile otherwise you could easily create a new facebook profile.
  • Once you reach your Facebook “News Feed” then on the above tabs you will see an option create next to “Home” under which you will find a drop-down menu to select whether you want to create a group, page, ad, event or marketplace listing as shown below;
  • So if you want to create a Facebook group then simply click on Group and you will see a dialog box screen where you will enter the initial details your group as shown below;
  • You also need to select the privacy of the group according to your preferences like whether you want it to be public, the secret or closed group.
  • Here you could also add your initial participants by entering their names to add participants and facebook will invite them to join your group.

TYPES OF FACEBOOK GROUPS

There are two types of groups of facebook that you need to know before you start your own,

  • Public Group – Public group is the one that anyone on facebook could join without any restrictions. Once you click the join button you will be added straight away without any further questions.
  • Closed Group – Closed group is the one with restrictions as compared to Public Group, here the admins of the group have to right to moderate the entries and posts on the group, here admins could manually approve or reject the participants or the posts added by the participants on the facebook group.

GET READY TO CUSTOMISE YOUR FACEBOOK GROUP

Once you have entered your initial facebook group setup information then your group will set up and you will be able to see your group as shown below;

For reference I have created a facebook group with the name “Test Group” but you could enter any name as per your preference.

It is very important if you want to attract more and more participants to join then you need to add an interesting and eye-catching profile picture and a cover photo so that your group looks authentic and genuine.

One of the most interesting points that you need to remember here is that anyone will join only if they know about what your Facebook group is all about and for that you need to provide your audience with a brief description so that it will help them to make a decision to join your group rather than coming to your doorstep and went away.

Therefore try to add the required information in the about section.

The success of any Facebook Page or Facebook Group depends on the daily activity and how many people are engaged on a daily basis on that group so if you are able to attract the participants that would be willing to share and post on your group the relevant information about the niche of your group without spamming the audience then that will help you build a greater network in the near future.

Facebook Group has a lot of potentials to convert visitors into customers, if you do affiliate marketing then don’t underestimate the power where you could find your relative audience where you could pitch your affiliate products or services that could reach a wider audience and here you could observe a high conversion rate as compared to posting on your timeline or your official page with limited number of followers.

Facebook Groups are very beneficial for online marketers and bloggers who would like to promote their content and affiliate products to the target audience with no marketing cost involved in the ad campaigns.

One special post for the readers of this post that it might sound free and easy but you need to be very careful with the maintenance of your group or if you join another group because a lot of people could post content that could violate Facebook policies which could lead to termination of your group and you need to manually moderate the posts which are of no use so that only quality posts are delivered to the participants.

With Facebook-ageddon (Or is it Facebook Zero? The Facebook Apocalypse?) approaching, many of you are scrambling to figure out how to continue to reach your supporters on the biggest social network of them all.

When the news first hit, we suggested a few ideas that could help you keep your engagement up.

One of those suggestions was “Start a Facebook Group” as Groups still seem to have the same placement in the News Feed as they always have. And the many different Group functions available also make it a good choice to connect with your supporters.

Today I am going to show you how to set one up from your Facebook Page so they will be linked with one another.

You, of course, have to be an admin of your Facebook Page to do this.

Go to Your Page and look to the sidebar on the left. Look for the “Groups” tab. I was also given the option to create a Group from the “Community” tab, but on another Page I manage this was not the case.

  2. Closed – Anyone on Facebook can see the group and who is in it, but only members can see what is being posted. Membership must be approved by a group administrator.

Some final notes on Facebook Groups:

As we’ve mentioned before, a Facebook Group that you manage usually needs more attention than a Page does. Some Groups have members that take charge and are constantly engaging with one another while others take more prompting from you. You will need to put a little more effort into your Group if you want to use it effectively.

Here are a few ways your nonprofit can use Facebook Groups:

  • Volunteers – Your staff can use Groups to announce when volunteers are needed. Volunteers can indicate what they want to volunteer for and when they are available. Introduce your volunteers to each other by tagging them in posts. Volunteers will be able to interact with each other, creating a sense of camaraderie that will only boost their willingness to help out.
  • Training – If your nonprofit holds any type of training, Groups are a great way to let participants ask questions and work with other folks in the program. Or you can hold the training through Facebook Groups itself.
  • Major Donors – Make those folks who are truly passionate about your cause feel more a part of it by creating a Group just for them. Use the Group to thank them, update them on your progress, and make them feel special.
  • Regional – If you are a national nonprofit, create Groups as a way for regional fans and volunteers to connect.

Essentially any segment of your audience could be a candidate for a Facebook Group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if I forgot some friends to put on the list. Can I still add them?
A: You can always add more friends to the group chat. In fact, even the members can invite and add a friend to join the group.

Q: I am a member of a group chat, but it annoys me when notifications arise. Is there any way to not receive any of this?
A: If you don’t want to receive any notification coming from a specific group, you can turn it off. The Facebook Messenger has the Mute Conversation option for every group chat or even for one conversation. First, choose and open the group chat. Tap the group’s name on top then click the Notifications. You will then see the Mute Conversation option immediately.

Q: Can I tag someone in the group chat? How will it notify them?
A: The Facebook Messenger app can allow you to tag or mention a specific person in your group chat. All you have to do is type the @ sign followed by the name of the person. Upon typing the very first letter of the name, the messenger will show you a list. It’s a pull-up menu with member’s name starting with that letter. You just have to choose from the list. Messenger will notify the person and will inform that he/she was mentioned.

Before this new technology, who would have thought that this can be possible? Distance can only separate people physically. Connecting and reaching for them is now more satisfying and enjoyable. The Facebook Messenger never fails to do that. As long as there is an app like the Messenger, we will never be alone.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

One of the great things about chat apps is that you can create your own groups. This is invaluable if you have people with similar interests, or if you simply want to have a private chat between certain people. But how do you create chat groups and how do you then invite people to join?

It is not that difficult and today I will show you how to do it for the three main services. These are Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Signal. I will do it on the desktop versions of the services wherever possible.

How To Create Chat Groups In Several Easy Steps

Everyone likes easy so let’s start with the easiest of the lot – Facebook Messenger.

How To Create Chat Groups In Facebook Messenger

Go to Messenger and in the top left-hand corner, click the icon to start a new message.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

You will now see at the top to type the name of a person or group. Since the group does not exist yet, start typing the names of people you want in the group. In this example, I added my wife and I. Continue adding people until y0u are finished.

But I will say from personal experience that some people do not like being added to groups without their permission. So ask them first.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

This starts the group off and you can start chatting. Your messages will then be sent to everyone in the group, and you can see who has seen the message and read it.

On the right-hand side, under People, you will see who is in the group (I blanked them out here). There is also a link to add other people.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

At the top of the right-hand sidebar, you can click on the title and change it to whatever you want. When you have the name of the group you want, click Done.

How To Create Chat Groups In WhatsApp

I can’t begin to count how many groups I am a part of in WhatsApp. So much so that I have muted all notifications to stop my phone beeping every two minutes. But there’s no doubt that having special interest groups in WhatsApp is great. My brother-in-law, for example, made a group for planning his wedding.

I suggest doing this on the desktop version or web version of WhatsApp as it is much easier. Obviously, everything will synchronize to your phone later.

Click the button at the top to start a new conversation.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

Now click New group.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

The nature of WhatsApp means you need to have the person’s phone number on your smartphone version of WhatsApp. If it is there, look for the name and add those you want to the group.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

The group will then open up for the first time ready for chatting. If you click on the title at the top, you can change it to something more memorable, as well as upload a group avatar.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

If you scroll further down in the group settings, you will see some other useful features. One is to mute the notifications (which I recommend you do if the group gets busy). The other is to make other team members an admin of the group.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

If you look at the above screenshot, you will see that there is an option called Invite to Group via Link. This generates a clickable link which you can post online for the public to join. Or you can send it to certain individuals, lessening the learning curve for joining the group.

How To Create Chat Groups In Signal

I haven’t had too much experience making groups in Signal, as I am still trying to convince my friends to switch over from WhatsApp. However, making a group is relatively straightforward and painless.

Saying that, the desktop version of Signal doesn’t seem to allow you to make a group. So you will have to do it on your phone.

Click the logo in the top right-hand corner to start a new conversation.

Click the Group icon in the top right-hand corner.

Name your new group and add whichever contacts you want to add. Then tap Create and the new group will open.

This is obviously on iOS but I would imagine Android is not much different. Maybe just a few cosmetic differences.

Conclusion

Sometimes it is easier to have an online “huddle” where you bring a group of people together into the same conversation. Every major chat service now supports group chats, including Skype. In fact, Skype may be the easiest of the lot with its group icon and quick clicking to add members.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

Facebook has a user base of over 2 billion people, and because of that, it’s one of the most powerful social media platforms for marketing your business. If you’re still not there, you’d better get a move on, because I am willing to bet your competition is there, since there are more than 60 million active business pages, many of which use Facebook ads to reach their audience. The platform adds half a million new users every day – that’s about six new profiles every second.

Even though the network is one of the most popular websites online today, there are some people out there who still don’t have a profile on the network. Statistics show half of people who don’t have a Facebook live with someone who does, and use their account to browse the site.

If you’re the person in your social circle that just refuses to use it, I’m not here to pass judgement, but if you’ve got a company that you want to build a Facebook Page for, you’re out of luck.

You Must Have a Personal Account to Create a Facebook Business Page

While you used to be able to create a Facebook Page without a personal account, as of 2018, the rules have changed. Before, all you had to do was sign up for a Facebook Business account and you could create a page with relative ease and speed. Unlike a personal account, you could not have friends and view personal profiles. Because of issues with advertising campaigns and bots, Facebook has had to make some changes to the way they operate, so the Business account option no longer exists.

In an effort to increase transparency in advertising, Facebook now requires a personal account be attached to all business pages. You cannot create a new Facebook business page unless there is a personal account attached to it. This is because Facebook requires all pages to have an administrator who can manage the profile and assign roles to other individuals in a company for other admins and contributors. This is only available by connecting the page to an admin’s personal account.

In the past, there was no way to show your personal profile was connected to your business page, as everything you post on your business page is posted with the name of the page, rather than the name of the person who is doing the posting. This, too, has changed.

On the right hand side of the page, there is now a Page Transparency Box that shows when the page was created, and who the Team Members are. Anyone who is a page admin is listed in this box. This is why it’s important to make sure you create an authentic profile, even if you don’t ever intend on posting personal status updates or adding your coworkers or personal friends.

When you click the profile name on the Team Members section, you’ll be taken to that person’s profile, where there is a box at the end of their bio, that indicates which pages they manage. There is no way to edit this information to hide it from your profile, and it will show as part of your public profile, regardless of what kind of privacy settings you have in place to protect your content.

Creating Your Facebook Business Page

If you do not have anyone else in the company who is willing to attach their personal account to the page for management purposes, you can create a basic account that you flesh out with enough information to prove it is legitimate, and lock down with privacy settings. That said, don’t count on anything you post on Facebook ever being 100% private.

Visit Choose the category your new page best fits into, and then follow the on-screen instructions to finish creating your page. Spend time adding all the details to your page so you can start benefiting from it right away. In the page settings, you can add additional admins, contributors, and editors so if you have someone else handling your social media, you can give them the necessary permissions to post content directly.

Once you’ve created your Facebook Page, it’s time to start posting content and engaging in conversation to attract new fans. You can get started by reaching out to people who are on your email list, updating your website to indicate you now have a Facebook profile, and running an ad campaign to build an audience. For best results, spend some time building your social media strategy before you create your page so it doesn’t sit inactive too long before it gets put to use.

You can even create a Facebook Group and link it to your page to build a sense of community in your brand and to connect with your customers on a deeper level.

To Instagram or Not to Instagram?

If you’re getting started on Facebook, it’s worth noting Instagram is part of the Facebook family. You can create an Instagram account quickly and convert it to a business account simply by linking it to your Facebook Page. Doing so will allow you to share your Instagram content to Facebook automatically, if you so choose, to help expand its reach.

Once you have a Page set up, you can also start a Facebook Ads account, where you can advertise to people on Facebook, Instagram, and other sites that are part of the Audience network. You can also install a Facebook Pixel on your website as part of your remarketing efforts. This tracks who your website visitors are so you can advertise to them when they are on Facebook. It’s highly flexible in the sense that you can advertise only to people who visit certain pages, or abandon their shopping carts. This allows you to integrate Facebook further into your overall digital marketing strategy.

Facebook is a social network that your business can use to connect with existing clients and new customers. You can offer sales, announce events, promote new products and share other news through your organization’s page. Organizations cannot have a Facebook profile such as those created by individual users, but you can create a Facebook Page for your business. You won’t be able to friend people, but you can have an unlimited number of fans or followers who “like” your page.

Step 1

Navigate to Facebook and click “Sign Up.”

Step 2

Type the first and last name of the person whose profile will be attached to your business page. Enter that user’s email address, password, gender and birthday.

Step 3

Wait for a email confirmation from Facebook and when it arrives in your inbox, click on the embedded link to confirm your account.

Step 4

Navigate in your Web browser to the “Create a Page” page (link in Resources).

Step 5

Click “Company, Organization or Institution.” Choose a category from the drop-down menu, type in your business name and agree to Facebook’s terms of service. Click “Get Started.”

Step 6

Add a photo to represent your company. Click “Upload from Computer,” select the desired photo and choose “Open.” Click “Save Photo.”

Step 7

Enter a description of your company and a link to your website. Click “Save Info.”

Facebook Smart Lists can usually help you figure out whom you want to share your own posts with. But sometimes you may want a specific list that Facebook can’t figure out. This might be a sub-sub-group, like all the people you played Frisbee with in college. In these cases, you can create your own list.

To create a Friend List, follow these steps:

From the Home page, look on the right side of the page for the News Feed menu.

Click the down arrow to expand the News Feed menu once and then click the See All link at the bottom of the menu to expand it even further.

This brings you to a list of all the different ways you can view News Feed, including seeing only certain types of stories or only stories from certain lists.

Click the Manage Lists option (the last item in the list).

The Manage Lists page appears. In other words, a page that lists all your lists.

Click the Create List button in the upper-right corner.

The Create New List window appears.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

In the List Name box, type the name of your list.

Maybe something like Dummies for the Dummies Team.

Add friends who belong on this list by typing their names in the Members box.

Facebook autocompletes as you type. Press Enter when you highlight the correct friend’s name.

Now, wherever Friend Lists appear on Facebook, including where you set privacy, you have access to the new list you just created.

Friend Lists you create are private, so even if the list you’re messaging is known in your mind as Annoying Co-Workers, all that your annoying co-workers see is a list of names. Members of Smart Lists are able to see the name of a list they’ve been added to.

For a while customers have been asking how to convert their Facebook content into ebooks.

There are at least 3 different benefits for this.

1) Creating an ebook from your profile. Kind of like a year book. Preserve all those posts, memories and comments!

2) Converting your Facebook Page into a book. This is more for businesses and taking the best posts on the page and transforming it into an ebook to use as a download to give to customers or use as a Lead Magnet.

3) Producing a summary of a Facebook Group.

This is invaluable for group admins. One of the problems with any community is keeping the quality of rich content accessible to all members. Facebook is really good at losing those amazing posts. You know the ones with a great thread and ‘gold nuggets’ of content.

With Designrr you can import the Group posts that have the highest engagement.

Lets take a quick look into how this works..

In Designrr you create a project from Facebook:

Then you can select whether to pull in content from your profile or your page (Standard Plan), any other Page (PRO Plan) or from a group where you are a Group Admin (Agency Plan)

Then you can select a template as normal. (By the way – We’ve also added new templates with some great 2 column layouts)

Facebook is launching a brand new way to connect with your community — Messenger Rooms!

Like a virtual conference call, you can set up and invite anyone to join a call, no need to pre-plan or set a time in the calendar — this new addition is all about spontaneity.

Here’s everything we know about Facebook’s newest feature, Messenger Rooms:

What is Facebook’s Messenger Rooms?

Think of it as a conference call without the formality.

Announcing the new feature during his live address, Mark Zuckerberg explained that he wanted to create a tool to bring more people together during this pandemic.

The solution: Messenger Rooms.

Modeled after tools like Zoom and Houseparty, Messenger Rooms is Facebook’s take on video conferencing: users can conference with up to 50 people at once and there’s no time limit on calls.

When you set up a new Messenger Room call, a notification will pop up on your friends’ and followers’ home page, so they can immediately jump in and join the call.

There’s even the option to invite your Instagram followers and contacts on WhatsApp — a sure-fire way to bring your community together!

But the best news is that anyone can join a Messenger Room — you don’t need a Facebook or Instagram profile to use the tool. Think how wide you can cast your community net!

How to Set Up a Facebook Messenger Room on Desktop:

Facebook is rolling out Messenger Rooms globally so if you want to host a Room, start by updating your Facebook and Messenger apps on mobile.

We’ll chat through how to set up a Messenger Room on both, starting with desktop.

Step #1: Log into Facebook

First up, log into your Facebook account on your computer — Messenger Rooms will already be up and running if it’s been rolled out to your region!

Step #2: Go to Your News Feed

Go to your News Feed channel and you’ll see a new section called “Rooms”.

Here you can decide to either click “Create” in that bar or click on the “Create Room” button under the “Create Post” box.

Once you tap “Create” or create a post to start a Messenger Room, a window will pop up to give you options for your Room settings.

Step #3: Define Your Messenger Rooms Settings

Here you can decide what kind of Room you want to host, who’s invited, and when the Room will start.

Room activity:

Facebook has teed up a few options to define your Room activity — like “Happy hour” and “Hanging out,” but you can also tap the + button to set a custom Messenger Room activity.

Who is invited?

Next, you can define who is invited to your Room. You can choose from either all of your Facebook friends, or a select specific friends from your list.

You’ll also have the option to share a link to the Messenger Room so anyone (even people without a Facebook account!) can join your Room.

Start time

Finally, before you can start your Messenger Room, you’ll need to set a start time.

There’s also a handy “reset to now” button which automatically sets your start time to the present time — so there’s nothing holding you back from a spontaneous group hangout!

Step #4: Create Room & Invite People to Join

Once all your settings are complete, you’ll be able to start your Room.

Simply click the “Join” at the bottom to enter, and use the unique URL to share your Room with friends so they can join.

Remember: Only 50 people can join a Room at once.

Now you’re all set up with your Messenger Room!

During his Live address, Zuckerberg promised Messenger Rooms would be rolled out worldwide soon, so keep an eye on your Facebook profile on desktop to see if you have access to it.

He explained that Messenger Rooms can also be connected to your Facebook Events, making a group hangout just one click away for your event attendees.

And a real bonus announcement: Facebook Events will soon be set up with the function to charge an attendance fee!

So if you’re a small business or creator that relies on in-person services, these two new features combined could help you create a revenue stream during the pandemic.

How to Set Up a Facebook Messenger Room on Messenger App:

For a quick and easy way to set up a Messenger Room, just follow these steps on your Messenger app:

  • Update to the latest version of the Messenger app and open it.
  • Tap “People” near the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • Tap “Create a Room” at the top of the screen.
  • If you’re creating a Room for the first time, you’ll see a “Try it” button that outlines the feature. If you rather skip it, just tap “Done” to move past the intro info.
• Just like on desktop, the next screen will allow you to adjust who gets to join the call. Tap “Who Can Join” (on an iOS) or “Edit” (on Android) to get two sharing options: anyone who has the link or only Facebook users with the link.

Anyone with the link or invitation can join the call.

Once you’re finished on your call, you can leave the Messenger Room — there’s the option to end the Room for all attendees or to leave it open so your guests can continue without you.

Set up Facebook Messenger Rooms on Instagram

That’s right! You can also set up and join a Facebook Messenger Room for Instagram!

That’s the cool thing about Rooms — anyone can join from Facebook’s family of apps (WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram) or anyone with the link can join. No log in necessary!

How to Create a New Facebook Group

  • You can easily create a group email in Outlook (also known as a Contact Group) to make emailing a group of people more efficient and convenient.
  • A Contact Group is a distribution list that lets you add multiple names to an email message with a single entry on the To: line.
  • You can add multiple names to a Contact Group and give it a friendly name you can enter on the To: line of an email.
  • Visit Business Insider’s Tech Reference library for more stories.

If you find yourself sending email messages to the same group of people over and over – perhaps your boss and a handful of co-workers – you don’t need to keep adding them to the To: line by hand every single time. Instead, create a Contact Group and simply send your message there.

Here’s how to create a group email in Outlook.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Apple Macbook Pro (From $1,299.00 at Apple)

Lenovo IdeaPad 130 (From $469.99 at Walmart)

How to create a group email in Outlook

A Contact Group, which is sometimes referred to as a “distribution list,” is a set of names you can add to an email message with a single action. Before you can add one to an email, you need to create it.

1. Open Outlook and then click the Contacts icon at the bottom left of the window to switch to the Contacts view.

2. In the ribbon bar, click “New Contact Group.”

3. Give your Contact Group a name that’s easy to remember in the Name field.

4. In the ribbon bar, click “Add Members” and then choose “From Outlook Contacts” from the drop-down menu. The Select Members dialog box should appear.

5. Double-click each name you want to add to your new Contact Group. You should see the names appear at the bottom of the dialog box.

6. When you’re done adding names to the group, click “OK.”

7. You can also manually enter names to the Contact Group that aren’t already in your Outlook contacts by clicking “Add Members” and choosing New E-mail Contact from the drop-down menu.

8. In the ribbon bar, click “Save & Close.”

How to send email to a group email in Outlook

You can repeat those steps to create as many Contact Groups as you want. Just be sure to give them names you’ll be able to easily recall so you can add them to email messages. To do that, just type the group’s name in to To:, CC:, or BCC: line of an email message, in the same way as you would enter any name from your Outlook contacts.

You might notice that a Contact Group has a small plus sign to its left. If you click the plus sign, you can “expand” the list to show you the names of all the people in the group. Be sure that you really want to do that, though, because once you expand a group in an email message, you can’t compress all those names back down to just a single entry.

Facebook offers a compelling environment from which to host a promotion or giveaway on your Business Page. You can use your Page as a starting point with a link to your website for promotion entry details or have the entire promotion contained within the Facebook community.

Promotions can be very creative and challenging, or can simply require a simple yes or no answer. They can motivate users to upload a video or simply complete a contact form. Some promotions require a panel of esteemed judges to determine the winner; others select winners randomly. Other promotions allow the users to vote for the outcome.

Although promotions are as unique as the companies that host them, these tips can improve your chances of success. Here are some best practices for creating Facebook promotions and giveaways:

Offer an attractive prize. The more attractive the prize, the better. For a prize to be attractive, it doesn’t necessarily have to cost a lot. The best prizes tend to be those that money can’t buy, such as a chance to meet a celebrity, or to attend a product’s prerelease party. Offering your products or services as prizes is a great way to get exposure for your brand too!

Use your existing customers and contacts to start the ball rolling. Getting those initial entries is the toughest part of running a Facebook promotion. This is when you need to reach into your network of family and friends. Reach out to your mailing list of customers with a friendly invitation. Promote the promotion on Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram, Myspace, and your Facebook Page. Wherever you have contacts, use them.

Cross-promote via your website. You need to promote your Facebook promotion across all channels to gain maximum participation; that includes your website. Adding a promotional banner with a link to your Facebook Page is a good start, but you can do so much more: issue a press release via one of the many news wire services or add a message to your phone answering system. The possibilities are endless.

Keep the promotion simple. This goes for all aspects of a promotion: Don’t make the rules too complicated. The fewer the questions on a form, the higher the rate of completion. Keep first prize a single, valuable item and then have several smaller second-place prizes.

The fewer the clicks to enter the promotion, the better.

Don’t set the bar too high. If you ask the participants for an original creation, keep the requirements to a minimum. For example, don’t place a minimum word count on an essay promotion. Or don’t require a video for the first round of submissions because videos are a lot of work.

Run promotions for at least one month. Things like word-of-mouth marketing require time. The more time you spend promoting the promotion, the more entries you get. The more you build up the excitement by keeping the promotion in front of your fans, the more often they take note of it and look forward to the big day when the winner is announced!

Integrate your promotion with a media campaign. Facebook Ads are an ideal complement to any promotion. By combining a Facebook Ad campaign with a promotion, you maximize the viral effect and amplify the number of engagements.

Make your promotion fun, interesting, and uniquely you. The main thing to keep in mind when planning a Facebook promotion is that members want to be entertained. Promotions should offer an outlet to self-expression, engage members, encourage them to share with friends, and communicate something unique about your brand.

Make it fair and transparent. Make sure you clearly explain how your winner will be selected. Include all details about the selection process. For example, if you plan to judge a photo contest based on creativity, artistic statement, or image quality, include these criteria in your rules.

You also want to explain how you’ll contact the winner. For example, how many days does a winner have after notified to reply and accept her prize? Finally, state that you have the right to change the winner selection process at any time — just in case you run into an unforeseen issue.

How to use Facebook group announcements

As a Facebook Group owner, I’ve often wished there was a way to pin more than one post at the top of the group page. Finally, Facebook has made that possible with their new announcements feature. See this short video to see exactly how it works. (for more info, see this from Facebook: A New Investment in Community Leaders.

As a Facebook group owner, there may be certain posts you want to highlight for your community. The new announcements feature lets you easily add posts to the top of the page in a way that’s not too terribly obtrusive. Up to ten posts can be added to the announcements section, which show up at the top of the group page. However, only one announcement shows up, with a little “See More” link to view the rest of them.

‘Pin to Top’ is still available, and can be used to pin one post as the top announcement.

Group owners can also set specific posts to expire at a set time. This will remove the post from the announcements section, but won’t delete it from the page.

I can see quite a few uses for the new announcement feature.

  • Group rules
  • Special offers
  • Group member recognition
  • Upcoming events
  • FAQs

Although this isn’t a super huge update from Facebook, it’s one I’ve wanted for a long time. So I was pretty happy to see this when I stumbled on it. How about you? If you’re a Facebook group owner, do you think you’ll use this new feature?

Facebook Groups can be a GREAT way to extend the reach of your customer base, get new customers and build relationships for business. However, it’s also very easy to waste a ton of time in groups that aren’t giving you what you REALLY need.

This post will give you reasons to create a Facebook Group and show you that when it comes to Facebook Groups, it is not a one size fits all approach.

1. Mentoring Opportunities

People want to feel like they are experts and help others with the information that they have and that others need. By using Facebook Groups to provide helpful tips and insight that many within your field of business are seeking, you establish yourself as a credible source.

2. Business Networking

Build a business community with Facebook Groups as it unites your potential clients, current clients, and fan base under the common thread of your business or common subject matter. As seen here in this photo below, this Facebook Group is about the topic of Infusionsoft and it is an open group. That means there is no approval process and anyone can simply click the green JOIN GROUP button.

Networking opportunities can abound among those in the group that may have not otherwise been connected. Your business is a common ‘like, know and trust’ factor and it can help solidify relationships for all involved.

3.Team Development Or Leadership Use

Businesses large and small can utilize the ease of a Facebook Group to streamline projects, communications, trainings and more. Due to the familiarity of Facebook to so many, it is often found that the Facebook Groups can be even more productive than sending the information via e-mail.

4. Social Sharing

Small business owners and entrepreneurs work tirelessly to use social media smarter to grow their brands. By participating in Facebook Groups that have opportunities to post new blog posts, or links to various social media platforms, everyone is able to support one another in a community that shares that common interest to grow via giving likes, shares, retweets, endorsements, etc.. We all love those opportunities, right?

5. Private Premium Memberships

If you have a service or product that is sold on your website, a private ‘exclusive’ membership to a Facebook Group is a nice extra perk to offer your paying customers. This is a place where you can share information ‘first’ before you tell others, share pre-order opportunities, and continue to build that base of raving fans for your business.

Here’s an example of a group that is only available to people that purchased a Facebook Ads training course. Their purchase gives them access to this closed group.

6. 24/7 Marketing through Suggested Groups

As seen here in this photo, you can notice members in a given group are given suggested groups by Facebook based on their interests and their friends’ interests.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

7. Customer Service Hub

A Facebook Group allows you to support customers in the things they are working on via your business. Especially if they are pleased with your product/service, they will invite more people to your group. This allows them to help naturally foster the transparency of your company.

You can share when you are working on resolutions on issues and the ability to answer quickly and candidly to questions lets everyone know that you are there for them and working on a resolution. It gives that ‘exclusive club’ feel.

8. Community of Loyal Fans

Facebook Groups are home to ambassadors and raving fans of your business. They are the ones that respond to every post you publish. When you have a new blog post, they share it, retweet it and shout from the roof tops (well, not literally..but you know what I mean). This atmosphere helps spreads positive vibes about your business. Here is also where you can thank these members for helping you grow your business, answer their questions and cultivate their loyalty to your business.

9. Visibility of All Posts to All Members

With the ever-changing Facebook algorithm that determines what is placed in people’s newsfeed, is exciting to know that when you are in a Facebook Group, each post is visible to all members of that group. This can be especially helpful if you fear your posts aren’t getting the exposure they deserve on your business Facebook page.

10. Group Based on an Upcoming Event

Build a Facebook Group community around an upcoming event. As people RSVP, people can be invited to join the group. The group helps create a more personal level of connections among members around the world before the actual event. This can help people that finally meet in real life feel their connection is deeper and launch stronger business relationships.

Kim Garst’s social selling conference had a Facebook Group open only to the the speakers and the leadership of the event making it really simple to engage and have a streamlined message prior to the event.

How to Create a New Facebook Group

My favorite reason to be on Facebook Groups is the ability for relationships to thrive. The time and energy it takes for a Facebook Group to be done well isn’t easy, make no mistake about that. You must show up, be consistent and put forth effort to grow and build the relationships. But in the long run, Facebook Groups can do great things to expand you business growth.

What are YOUR best reasons to create a Facebook Group? Share with us below!

In Lync, groups are collections of contacts that you create so you can see several contacts in your display at a glance or communicate with them all at the same time. You decide what groups you need and who will belong to which ones. For instance, you might create a group for you and all your co-workers who are working on the same project, set up a second group for your softball team, and start a third for people in your carpool. What groups you have, who’s in them, and how long you keep them intact are based on what’s convenient for you. You can delete a group as easily as you can create one. Your contacts typically don’t know—and don’t need to know—which of your groups they belong to.

Create a group

In the Lync main window, in your Contacts view, click the Add a contact icon , then click Create a New Group.

In the space that now opens up at the bottom of the window, type over the phrase New Group to give your group a descriptive name.

Delete a group

In the Lync main window, in your Contact list, right-click the heading for the group you want to delete, then click Delete Group on the drop-down list. (You can also rename a group, or change the order in which your groups are displayed, from this same drop-down list.)

There’s a difference between the groups you create and the access levels (Friends and Family, Workgroup, Colleagues, External Contacts, Blocked Contacts) that Lync sets up. The former are collections that allow you to display and communicate with your contacts more efficiently. The latter are categories based on formal relationships that Lync knows about and that control who can reach you, how and when.

Let’s say for example that you have a coworker named Sam. Because Sam shows up in your org chart as a member of your work unit, Lync has assigned him the “workgroup” access relationship with you, which allows him to see your calendar and get in touch with you at times some others can’t. But because your paths cross repeatedly due to common interests, you’ve made Sam a member of three groups you created in Lync to help you keep track of your contacts: “Contoso PMs” (Contoso Product Managers you’ve worked with at various points in your career), “C# Sharpies” (a list of C# programmers whose skills you have great respect for) and “B6 Pasta Lovers” (people in Building 6 who you know you can count on to split an order of take-out Italian food occasionally).

If, when you add contacts, you don’t assign them to a specific group, Lync will automatically add them to a spillover group called Other Contacts, which has the “Colleague” access level.

If you’re one of the 40% of small businesses that say filling open positions is harder than expected, you just got a new way to attract talent. Facebook recently introduced Jobs on Facebook which enables brands to post job openings on their Page and on a dedicated and searchable hub of jobs.

This new addition is aimed at helping brands of all sizes find qualified people where they’re already spending most of their time online – on Facebook.

Did you know that 79% of job seekers use social media in their job search?

While you might not think people traditionally turn to Facebook to actively look for jobs, they absolutely do use Facebook, and other social media sites, to research companies before they apply. Having a strong employer brand showcased on Facebook is advantageous if you want to attract and retain the best people to work for your company.

So how does Jobs on Facebook actually work?

1. On your Facebook page, navigate to where you would normally create a post and select the “Create a Job Post” option (NOTE: At present the option is only available to North American-based businesses)

How to Create a New Facebook Group

2. You’re then presented with the configuration menu which enables you to customize your job posting. You can add all relevant details to job seekers, including salary, job requirements and you can even ask custom questions to learn more about applicants.

3. When you click “Publish” you are then notified that your position is under review and should be posted if approved within 24 hours. All applications that come from your posting will be delivered to you via Messages to your Facebook Page.

4. The newly created Job will live on the “Jobs” tab on your Facebook Page – from here you can promote your job posting to the ideal audience using Facebook’s targeting parameters.

If you’re tired of the high costs of LinkedIn recruiter seats, job board contrast and other methods of digital recruiting? Why not give Jobs on Facebook a try?

I have always emphasized the importance of Facebook presence for a Blog or any brand. Being one of the largest social networking community, if you use Facebook properly for your marketing effort, you might not need to be dependent on search engines for traffic and sales. Facebook offers many ways to promote your brand on FB and two most important are:

Facebook Pages and Facebook groups.

Both have their advantages as well as disadvantages. Here you will get to know whether you should create a ‘page’ or a ‘group’ for your blog.

Now, you could be either one of those Bloggers, who follow the year age trend and just create a Page to inform your Blog readers about latest updates and use it to connect with them. Though one major issue or I would say, the problem with Facebook pages is, it’s more like one to many communication. When any of your fans need a query to be resolved, his messages never get so much impact, and you miss out the biggest opportunity of giving a community-like feeling.

Let me track back to Blog community feature here: You can create a community around your blog only when, your readers can interact with each other and not with just you.

When it comes to a Facebook page, it can be defined as a platform where it is: ‘you’ and your ‘fans’. While a Facebook group is a platform which enables a ‘discussion’ between people who share the same interests. With a ‘page’ you can provide your fans with updates, and it’s not meant for your fans to interact with each other. If you want your fans to interact with one another and discuss the things they are interested in, then creating a ‘Group’ if for you because it will provide you and your fans with a ‘discussion environment.’

Difference Between Facebook Pages and Facebook groups:

How to Create a New Facebook Group

Let’s look at some of the differences between Fb Pages & Fb groups:

The Purpose

A ‘Page’ is meant for representing a particular brand or a person. A ‘Group’ provides an environment where a group of people can interact with each other. A page is must have for every Blog and brand whereas a Facebook group is an additional option to take your Fb marketing efforts to next level. Officially, Facebook offers many features which are “Page” only options. Like you can use Fb advertising to get more fans or use sponsored stories to make your content reachable to more audience.

Similarly, Facebook groups offer some unique features like “Seen by”, which will let you know how many people and who all have seen your posts on the group.

The Restrictions

The ‘Page’ can be made public or admin-only. The ‘Group’ can be made public, or closed in which it’s visible but a request needs to be made, or a secret in which it can’t be found by search or other means.

Facebook pages lack the feature of instant chatting using Fb chat, where as a Facebook group members can interact using Chat feature. Which is very useful if you give an alternative way for your members to shout and communicate with each others.

Viewing other fans or members

Other people can’t be viewed on a ‘Page’. Members can be viewed in a ‘Group’.

Other than the above-mentioned points, anyone can search, find and then join a ‘Page’ unless it’s set to admin-only. The admin of a page can ban or delete a person. In a ‘Group’, an existing member can add another member. However, this can lead to the group getting out of control. The admin can delete or ban a member of the group. Like Pages, Facebook Groups offer role like a moderator, which helps admin to add more people to manage groups effectively.

Groups won’t provide you with tabs or applications. This means that you won’t be able to have a competition, a contact page or even a welcome page, etc. Having a group provides you with a ‘shared documents’ option.

The posts made in a ‘Group’ don’t go to the newsfeed, and a ‘notification’ tells about the post. This is beneficial in the sense that the members won’t miss out on a post.

However, if a lot of members are posting, then it can become annoying, and people turn off the notification option. This leads to people not coming back and seeing if something new has been posted. This is where a strict moderation rule comes into the picture.

Another thing which is common about both Pages and groups is Branding. Both have adopted new Facebook timeline cover picture, which will help you to showcase your brand.

  • How to keep your Facebook group Secret

Guideline for creating FB group for your Blogs:

I have been running a Facebook group with the name Bloggers lounge for long, and it has been a great initiative for young bloggers to interact and communicate with others.

However, one limitation which I have found using a generic name and not your brand name is keeping the group focused when thousands of people join the group. Over the time, when group members increase, it makes it hard for admins to control and being a completely open community, you can’t impose certain rules, banning defamers to keep the group spam free and clean. Here are few things which you would like to consider when creating a Fb group for your Blog:

  • Keep your group Closed. (Don’t keep it public or private)
  • Members could be added after admin approval; this will reduce the spam addition.
  • Add 1-2 moderators whom you can trust and are active on Facebook. This will help to reduce the spam.
  • Use your exact brand name to create a group, and this will ensure brand visibility and give a more professional touch to the group. You can do so by going to edit and select the name.
  • Keep posting by members open; this will help them to post their queries.

Conclusion

In the nutshell, the Facebook page is a must have for any brand and officially Facebook promote pages for using as marketing purpose. Having a group for your brand or blog will help your readers to create a discussion forum without spending a dime. Moreover, since Facebook is for real people, spam on Facebook groups will be less compared to any question and answers forum or discussion forum you are creating.
