Sticking a bunch of items into a plastic baggie seems easy enough, but anyone who’s stocked a TSA-approved dopp kit knows it’s actually a work of art. It probably doesn’t seem like a men’s travel kit needs a whole lot in it, but when you start compiling all the products you use on a daily basis -- from shampoo and moisturizer to toothpaste -- figuring out what you can take on the plane and what you can’t gets a little confusing. But, it doesn’t have to be.
First thing’s first: What exactly are the TSA’s rules on dopp kits? To avoid getting your prized possessions confiscated (because who wants to replace a trusty bottle of Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash?), keep in mind that all carry-on liquids must be 3.4 ounces or less per item and must all fit in a quart-sized bag, whether that’s a Ziploc or something more sturdy. This includes liquids, aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes; anything over 3.4 ounces will be snatched up unless you keep it in your checked baggage. There’s nothing sadder than watching your favorite things -- and hundreds of dollars -- get tossed into the garbage right in front of you, so it’s best to make sure your goods make the cut before zipping your suitcase shut.

Even though your toothpaste has probably snuck through in the past, technically any liquid-y form is supposed to be in your dopp kit if it’s a carry-on. That means toothpaste, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, liquid deodorant, cologne or perfume, contact solution, eye drops, and aerosols like shaving cream and hairspray. Things that don’t need to squeeze into your dopp kit are items like solid deodorant, contact lenses, and shaving razors. Since these rules only apply to carry-ons, you can pack your full-size liquids -- including your signature scent -- without a problem if you’re checking your bag.
Now that you know the rules, it’s time to get packing -- which probably isn’t your favorite part. But as long as your keep this checklist in mind and have a solid dopp kit on hand to store all your favorite products in, you’ll be flying high without a problem in sight. Start with these travel essentials for men for a fuss-free flight.
