How to share music

When you set up purchase sharing, everyone in the group gets immediate access to the songs, albums, movies, TV shows, books, and apps purchased by family members who choose to share them. New purchases appear in the Purchased tab in Apple Books, the App Store, or iTunes for each family member. Just select the family member whose collection you’d like to browse, then download or play the content you choose. Other family members can access your collection in the same way. If you want to keep some purchases private, you can choose to hide individual items.

Making purchases is easy. So is setting limits.

When your family sets up purchase sharing, all new Apple Books and App Store purchases will be billed to the organizer’s account. But if Ask to Buy is turned on for children in the family, the organizer can still call the shots. When a child initiates a purchase, an alert is sent to the organizer, who can review the download and approve or decline it right from the organizer’s device. This applies to both purchases and free downloads.

Get your family on the same page.

When you set up your family, a shared album is created automatically in the Photos app on all family members’ devices. Everyone can add photos, videos, and comments to the album whenever they like and get notified when something new is added. Family Sharing also sets up a family calendar where everyone can view, add, or change events and appointments, and get an alert when something changes. And anyone can use the Reminders app to send time or location reminders to the family. So when it’s picture day, pizza night, or just a trip to the beach, everyone’s in the know.

Media sharing is one of the perks of having your own home network, and Apple makes it easy. Once you’ve shared your music and video content, you can access it from Macs, Windows PCs, iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs on the network.

What Media Can You Share Using macOS?

macOS comes with everything you need to start sharing both audio and video media. In macOS Mojave and earlier, you only needed to share your “iTunes media library. Now, as of macOS Catalina, iTunes has been officially retired.

This has led to some confusion about where the feature is now found, as Apple has shuffled the various iTunes features around. In addition to sharing music and video libraries, macOS also includes basic file sharing, printer sharing, internet connection sharing, and a handy screen sharing feature for getting tech support.

All of these sharing features are now accessible from the Sharing panel within System Preferences.

Enable Media Sharing for Music and Video

Before you can access your media over the network, you will need to enable media sharing.

To do this on macOS Catalina or later:

1. Launch System Preferences and click “Sharing.”
2. Click “Media Sharing” and make sure the “On” box to its left is checked.
3. Enable Home Sharing and authorize with your Apple ID and password.
4. Set whether or not you want remote plays to update your play count and whether you want photos accessible to any Apple TVs on the network.
5. Click “Options” and set a password if you want to keep other users out of your library.

The choice to set a password is up to you, but it will make accessing your shares a little trickier over the network. Remember that sharing will not allow other users to change or damage your library, and only provides read-only access.

If You Can’t Enable Media Sharing

A common complaint from Mac users is that they cannot enable media sharing because they are unable to check the relevant box in the Sharing preferences. If you are having this issue, then you should try deauthorizing and reauthorizing your Mac inside the respective apps.

To do this on macOS Catalina or later:

1. Launch the Music and TV apps.
2. At the top of the screen, click Account > Authorizations > Deauthorize this computer (do this in both apps).
3. Now click Account > Authorizations > Authorize This Computer (do this in both apps)
4. Try sharing your media library again using the instructions above.

Are You Still Running macOS Mojave or Earlier?

If you haven’t upgraded to macOS Catalina, you can still share your library. You’ll have to do it the old fashioned way:

1. Launch iTunes and wait for it to load.
2. At the top of the screen, click on iTunes > Preferences.
3. Under the Sharing tab, enable “Share my library on my local network” and indicate whether you want to share everything or just specific playlists.
4. Set password requirements and whether or not remote plays update play counts.

How to Access Shared Media Over the Network

Now that you’ve shared your media over the network, you can access it from your other devices. Bear in mind that devices can’t access your Mac’s media library when it’s powered off.

To access your media from a Mac running macOS Catalina or later:

1. Launch the Music or TV apps.
2. Click Library. (This is only necessary in the TV app.)
3. Click on the drop-down arrow next to “Library” in the sidebar.
4. Choose the library you wish to stream from and wait for TV or Music to update your available content.
5. Switch back to your library by clicking the drop-down arrow and selecting “My Library.”

(If the Mac is still running macOS Mojave or earlier, launch iTunes and use the sidebar on the Library tab to find shared media.)

To access media from an iPhone or iPad:

1. Launch the Music or TV apps on your iOS device.
2. Head to the Library tab.
3. Tap “Home Sharing,” and then tap your library. (For the TV app, you can just select the Library.)
4. Wait for the app to connect, and then play your media.

Note: You can “back out” of this menu to return to your regular Library.

To access media from a Windows PC:

1. Launch iTunes.
2. Click the Library tab.
3. In the sidebar, click on the drop-down box next to “Library” and select the library you wish to use.
4. Wait for the available media to refresh.
5. Switch back to your library by clicking the drop-down arrow and selecting “My Library.”

To access media from an Apple TV:

1. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts and select Home Sharing.
2. Sign in with your Apple ID and password if necessary.
3. Now launch the “Computers” app from the dashboard and select a shared library to play from.

If You’re Already Using iCloud Music Library

If you are subscribed to Apple Music, and you use iCloud Music Library to keep your library in sync between devices, you won’t need to do this. Your library should be the same regardless of which device you are using.

Similarly, TV shows and movies you’ve purchased will always be available for download again under the “Purchases” section of the app you are using.

In this post, I will show you three most feasible ways to share music on iPhone via AirDrop, Family Sharing, and DoTrans for iOS.

Part 1: How to Transfer Songs from iPhone to iPhone Using AirDrop

AirDrop is an ad-hoc service allowing data transfer between iOS devices like songs, photos, videos, and so on. It’s like a bridge between two devices using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Do you know how to share Apple Music song to your friends using Airdrop indeed? Let me show you the ropes to AirDrop music.

STEP 1. Make sure both iPhones are connected to Wi-Fi and have Bluetooth on.

STEP 2. On target iPhone, follow these:

On iOS 10 and former, launch Control Center and tap “AirDrop“.

On iOS 11 and latter, launch Control Center, firmly press on the upper left module, and tap “AirDrop“.

STEP 3. Choose “Contacts Only” or “Everyone” to enable “AirDrop”.

Note: On the receiving device, you need to confirm to accept so that you can send successfully. There are obviously particular things which you need to know to share iPhone Apple Music with Airdrop smoothly:

1. Both of the Apple devices should use Apple Music which can only be used on iOS 8.4 and the later. And it is limited to recent iOS devices.

2. Limited data types can be transferred: music, photos, videos, contacts.

Part 3: How to Share Music on iPhone with Family Sharing

One of the most interesting and perplexing features in iOS 8 is “Family Sharing”. With Family Sharing, family members and granting members get immediate access to each other’s music, movies, books, apps, etc. that purchased from iTunes Store.

STEP 1. Go to Settings > iCloud > Set up Family Sharing. > Get Started > Continue on iPhone to enable Family Sharing. Then, a credit or debit card is required.

STEP 2. As the Organizer of the Family Share plan, you’re responsible for setting up a payment option for future iTunes and App Store purchases. That means you’re responsible for paying for other members’ purchases.

STEP 3. To add family members to your group, tap “Add Family Member. “. You’ll be able to invite members via email address (up to 5 total), which they will need to confirm.

STEP 4. Once you’ve set up Family Sharing, everyone can access each others’ apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books. Navigate to iTunes Store > More > Purchased. Select a family member and download the music you want from them.

By using Family Sharing, you must know that:

• You can only share purchased music on iPhone, which means the music you ripped from CD, downloaded from the internet, received from others are all cannot be shared.

• Family Sharing is unavailable on the iPad, iPhone 4/3GS, iPad touch 4 and older models.

• The Organizer is responsible for all new purchases, which yes, is kind of pain.

Create playlists with music from the Apple Music catalog or your own collection, then share your playlists with friends. Or if someone sent you a playlist, you can save it.

Create a playlist

1. In the Apple Music app, find a song.
2. Press and hold on the song. Or if you’re on a computer, hover your pointer over the song and click the more button .
3. From the menu that appears, choose “Add to a Playlist.”
4. Tap or click “New Playlist.”
5. Give your playlist a name. And if you want, add a cover image and description. If you’re on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device, tap Done.
6. Browse or search for another song, then press and hold on it. Or on a computer, hover your pointer over the song and click the more button .
7. From the menu that appears, choose “Add to a Playlist,” then choose the playlist that you created.

By default, songs that you add to playlists don’t automatically add to your library. If you want to add each song to your library, you can change your settings.

Share a playlist through Apple Music

If you subscribe to Apple Music, you can make your playlists public and send them to friends.

Make a playlist public

To make your playlist public, turn on “Show on My Profile and in Search” when you create the playlist. When you make a playlist public, anyone can use search to find it.

Send a playlist to a friend

If you subscribe to Apple Music, you can send playlists to friends through Messages, Mail, Twitter, Facebook, using AirDrop, and more. The friend who receives your playlist must also have an Apple Music subscription.

To share a playlist, find the playlist that you want to share, then follow these steps:

• On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap the more button , then tap Share .
• On your Mac or PC, click the more button , then Share Playlist.
• On your Android device, tap the more button , then Share Playlist to see your sharing options.

After you choose how you want to share your playlist, a new window opens in the app that you chose. In some apps, you can add a message before you send your playlist.

Save an Apple Music playlist

You can add any public playlist to your library, including playlists that you find in the For You section of Apple Music or playlists your friends send to you. To save playlists to your library, find the playlist that you want to save, then tap or click Add.

By default, the songs in the playlist stay separate from your main library. If you want to add each song in the playlist to your library, you can change your settings.

If Apple or the owner of the playlist adds or removes any songs from a playlist that you save, the saved playlist in your library will automatically refresh to reflect the updates.

Using the new Audio Sharing feature introduced in iOS 13.1 and iPadOS 13.1, you can share audio from one iPhone with two AirPods. You can watch a video or listen to a song along with your friend in just a tap!

There are two main ways to share audio from one device to two AirPods. We’ve already covered how to directly connect two AirPods to a single iPhone or iPad.

In this guide, we’ll focus on using the Share Audio feature available on devices running iOS 13.1, iPadOS 13.1, and above that lets you share audio between devices without the need for pairing both sets of AirPods.

Requirements

As mentioned above, this feature works on devices running iOS 13.1, iPadOS 13.1, or higher, and ones that support Bluetooth 5.0. The feature will work for iPhone 8 and higher, iPad Pros, iPad (5th gen and later), iPad Air (3rd gen), iPad mini (5th gen), and the iPod Touch (7th gen).

When it comes to headphones, Apple supports a range of AirPods and Beats headphones. The feature will work on AirPods, AirPods Pro, Powerbeats Pro, Powerbeats 3, Beats Solo Pro, Beats Solo 3 Wireless, Beats Studio 3 Wireless, and Beats X. Basically, any of Apple’s headphones that include the W1 or H1 chip.

How to Use the Audio Sharing Feature

The Audio Sharing feature can be accessed using the Control Center.

On your iPhone or iPad with a software home bar, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen (where you can see the status symbols) to access the Control Center.

If you have an iPhone or iPad with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the Control Center.

From the Control Center, press and hold on the “Now Playing” toggle.

Here, tap on the AirPlay button.

You can also get to this screen by tapping on the AirPlay button from the Music app or the Now Playing widget on the lockscreen.

Along with your connected AirPods, you’ll see a new “Share Audio” button. Tap on it.

Now, bring the other iPhone or iPad near your device, with the headphones connected to them. You can also bring their AirPods or headphones near your device.

You’ll see the paired device in the popup. Here, tap on the “Share Audio” button.

Now both devices will be connected to your iPhone or iPad.

You’ll see checkmarks next to the two devices. The current device will have a checkmark next to it. To connect to the second pair of headphones, just tap on it.

Both devices are now connected to your iOS or iPadOS device. Start playing media, and it will start playing on both headphones simultaneously.

To disconnect one of the sets of earbuds or headphones, go back to the AirPlay screen and tap on the checkmark icon again. You can also turn the headphones off or put the AirPods back in the case to stop the audio sharing.

Take a look at these eight settings once you’ve upgraded to iOS13 to get the most out of the update.

Over time, it’s not uncommon to build up a large library of music and media on your Mac. If you want to share that content with other people so that, for example, your family members can listen to your music library, it’s a fairly simple process on Apple’s devices.

You can do that through Apple’s Home Sharing feature, or by sharing playlists you’ve created in Apple Music. In this article, we’ll outline both methods for you so that you can get started straight away.

Speaking of Apple’s Music app, in MacOS Catalina the company split up iTunes into three distinct apps — Music, TV, and Podcasts. Set up Home Sharing

Apple devices have a feature called Home Sharing that’s designed to let you share, stream, and import various media files from up to five devices — be they Mac, PC, iOS or Apple TV devices — that are connected to your Wi-Fi network.

Step 1: Make sure any device you want to share with is signed in using the same Apple ID and has been authorized to play purchased items on that Apple ID.

Step 2: On your Mac, open System Preferences by clicking the Apple icon, then click System Preferences.

Step 3: Click Sharing, then click Media Sharing in the left-hand sidebar.

Step 4: Tick the checkbox next to Home Sharing, then enter your Apple ID username and password and click Turn On Home Sharing. You’ll now see a dialog box telling you Home Sharing has been enabled.

Use Home Sharing on a Mac

Now that Home Sharing has been enabled, you’ll want to start sharing your content in Apple Music.

Step 1: Make sure that any device that wants to access or share an Apple Music library is turned on, is not asleep and is running Apple Music.

Step 2: Open the Music app and sign in with your Apple ID (if you aren’t already).

Step 3: Click the down arrow next to Library in the left-hand sidebar.

Step 4: You’ll see a list of libraries that have been shared with you. Click the one you want to access and you’ll see it loaded into Apple Music. Any playlists that have been created in the shared library will also be shown in the left-hand sidebar.

Use Home Sharing on iOS

Home Sharing can also be accessed from your iOS or iPadOS device. Here’s how.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on iOS and scroll down to Music; tap it.

Step 2: At the bottom of the window under Home Sharing, tap Sign In if you aren’t already signed in with your Apple ID. If you are signed in, you’ll see your Apple ID’s email address displayed on your screen.

Step 3: Open the Music app, then tap Library in the bottom toolbar, then Home Sharing.

Step 4: Choose a library and wait for Music to download it to your device. Once that’s done, you can play the shared content.

Share your media with guests

What if you want to share your music library with someone else who has a different Apple ID? Fear not, as that’s just as easy to do.

Step 1: Open System Preferences on your Mac, click Sharing, then click Media Sharing in the left-hand sidebar.

Step 2: At the bottom of the window, tick the checkbox next to Share media with guests.

Step 3: Click Options… on the right-hand side.

Step 4: To require a password when people try to access your media library, tick the checkbox next to Require Password, then enter a password in the adjacent box.

Step 5: You can choose to either share all your media items or only selected things. For the latter option, click Selected playlists, then choose exactly what media types you want to share.

Share an Apple Music playlist

If you would rather just share a single Apple Music playlist rather than your entire library, that is straightforward to do as well.

However, note that both you and the person you want to share the playlist to must have an active Apple Music subscription.

Step 1: On iOS or iPadOS, find the playlist you want to share, tap the three dots icon under its name, then tap Share. You’ll get a variety of sharing options, including AirDrop, Messages, Mail, Facebook and more.

Step 2: On a Mac, find the playlist, then click the three dots icon like the one in step 1. From here, click Share Playlist.

“I get a new iPhone SE, and also keep my old iPhone 5s for mass music in it. Can I share music on my iPhone 5s with my new iPhone SE? I do not want to give up my favorite music in old iPhone?”

“I purchase lots of rock music from Apple music, and I want to share those songs with my friends. Is there any tool that can do that?”

The above two questions are from Apple Discussion. As the closure of iOS system, iPhone users suffer a lot to share music files between iOS devices (iPhone, iPad and iPod) like the above two users. But it is still possible to share music files between iPhones. In this article, we will share you three ways to share iPhone music with another iPhone.

Solution one: Share music on iPhone with iTunes Home Sharing

If you use iTunes Hoem Sharing (iTunes Home Sharing does not work?) to share music between iPhones, what you need to make sure is that iPhones with before iOS 8.4 are on the same Wi-Fi network. And follow the step-by-step guide to get iPhone to iPhone sharing with iTunes.

Step 1 On your iPhone, go to “Settings” > “Music” > scroll down to find “Home Sharing”.

Step 2 Log in your Apple ID and password and hit “Done”, and repeat the process for all the music files you want to share with another iPhone.

Step 3 Open the Music app on another iPhone you also want to listen to the music files.

Step 4 If you use Apple music, tab “More” > “Shared” > hit the library you want to listen to. If you do not have Apple music on another iPhone, tab “My Music” > “Songs” or “Albums” and select “Home Sharing”.

This way will take minutes to copy music from iPhone to another iPhone, but not stream, which is what you should keep in mind. iTunes Home Sharing also gets you share iTunes videos free.

Solution two: Send music from iPhone to another iPhone with AirDrop

Music-sharing sites also provide a great way to connect with people who share your excellent musical taste, as well as to get recommendations for new music that you’ll like just as much. You might even make a few friends along the way.

We do have a few caveats, of course. In most cases you are limited to streaming music to your PC or handset, not downloading it. The world’s largest social music network is built around what it calls “scrobbling.” Download the Last.FM software, and it scans (or “scrobbles”) your most recently played songs on iTunes, WinAmp, or Windows Media Player to build a profile of your musical interests. Enter the name of an artist into the FM software, and it plays a song at random and creates a playlist of others you might like. Thus The Clash begets the Ramones, Dead Kennedys, and Green Day. Norah Jones leads to Billie Holiday, Diana Krall, and John Coltrane. And if by some dark confluence of events Justin Timberlake comes on, you can click the ‘Ban’ button and never have to hear that song again. (Wouldn’t it be great if everything worked like that?)

The site itself is chock-full of goodies. You can download free tracks from artists like David Byrne and Juvenile, upload or watch videos, see what stuff other Last FMers have scrobbled, and so on. Before you know it, 3 hours have passed and you’ve blown another deadline. Sigh.

2. Social.FM

Newly launched in beta, Social.FM (formerly Mercora) features a nice iTunes-like interface, but it’s still a little buggy. Download the player to your desktop or your mobile phone, or put a Social FM widget in your Facebook, MySpace, or Xanga profile. Then you can upload your fave tunes, create playlists or “channels,” and become a world famous DJ–or something like that. One cool feature is the ability to access your music via your smart phone (though my LG phone’s IQ apparently isn’t high enough to conceive of such a thing).

You say you’d rather listen than play DJ? Type the name of an artist into the Web search engine, and it will show you biographical info, plus songs and YouTube videos (provided that another Social FM DJ has uploaded them). The search engine needs a little fine tuning, however–a search for the seminal LA punk band X turns up songs from Abba’s “Mystic Xmas Night” (!) and videos of Malcolm X. You can also send e-mail invites so your pals can enjoy your musical selections (though this feature wasn’t working properly when I tried it).

Apple Music has always been focused primarily on your music experience, but the last couple of years have seen the streaming service become a little more social by allowing you to connect with your friends who also subscribe to the service. Part of this is sharing playlists with your friends, letting them see what you’ve built, and vice versa. As an instructor, you want to provide the best class you can to your new online members while making the class feel as normal as possible as if they were there in the room with you. One of the best and easiest ways of doing this is by playing music while teaching.

It is important that you use this option to share sound correctly as it needs to be playing through the ‘meeting’ and not being played on any device to be picked up by your microphone. Doing the latter will interfere with your voice and cause poor sound quality.

Do you need a music license?

This is intended to be a guide on how to play music while teaching through the Zoom app, it is not advice on music licensing.

If you wish to play music during your sessions then please also ensure that you have paid the relevant music licensing fees, whether you are delivering your session in person or online.

Step 1: When you join your meeting before the customers attend, click on the “share” button at the bottom of the page.

Once you’ve entered the meeting, you will see at the bottom of your screen a couple of different options. Click on the green “share” button (this may say share screen). It will open up a secondary window with a list of options.

Don’t worry, this will not close or stop your meeting. It is advisable that you set this up before the class so as to avoid an awkward interaction with your members as they wait for you to set this up.

Please note: The “share screen” button may be in a different location, depending on what Operating System and device you are using.

Ensure that your sound both on your device and within the meeting is not muted.

Step 2: Click on the “advanced” option tab at the top of the screen.

You don’t need to select anything from the “basic” option. This is for screen sharing and not for audio sharing. The “advanced” option tab should be located between the “basic” tab and the “files” tab.

Step 3: Click on the middle option, “Music or Computer Sound Only”.

Clicking this box allows you to share whatever sound or music is coming out of your computer. It does not mute your mic, so you can speak and play music at the same time. Once you have click on this box, click the “share” button at the bottom right-hand side of the screen.

Once you start sharing, you should see a green and red box at the top of your meeting screen with the words, “You are sharing computer sound” and “stop share”. This will let you know that it’s working.

Step 4: Play music from whichever app or website you want.

Go to whatever music playing app or website you wish to use and choose your music. You will definitely want to adjust the sound on the music playing service you’re using (not your entire computer volume) so that your voice can be heard over it.

If the music is still too loud, go to your device settings and change your microphone options to increase the volume.

Microphones and Headphones?

To ensure clear and consistent sound, we advise using a good quality microphone if possible so that your lovely voice can be picked up clearly.

It can be advised to use headphones too when instructing and playing music, so that the music that’s playing doesn’t get picked up by your microphone. When the sound is playing through the meeting on your computer, but also getting relayed through your microphone it can create out of phase music.

Step 5: Have an amazing class!

Once you’re done with the class, just click on the red “stop share” button at the top of the meeting. This will stop the music being shared with the members but it will still play on your device, so remember to stop the music too.

Before running your classes we advise that you run some practice sessions with your friends or family to get some feedback and ensure that you’re getting it right!

In fact, other streaming services like Spotify, Shazam, and Pandora could share to Instagram stories for some time now (Pandora can even share to Snapchat stories). Apple Music seems the first to be able to share directly to Facebook stories, however, so hopefully, we’ll see the same functionality come to other streaming platforms as well.

One other medium that brought people together from ancient times is, of course, music, which has the power to motivate generations. One drawback of this solution is that users will need a pretty hefty Internet connection for the sync to be done fast, and if they are using mobile devices, then they should have some very big data plans.

The other way in which one could share a playlist is by using a specialized service, dedicated for creating playlists, which are stored online and can be accessed from anywhere and via any device connected to the Internet. These solutions are the most elegant and easy ones available, and we’ll be providing those interested in creating and sharing their playlists with some of these awesome services.

The best Services for Sharing your Music Playlists

Taking a closer look at these services, we noticed that some of them offer simple, but very effective tools for users to create music playlists. They use one of the most known sources of music in the world: YouTube. They allow users to search for their favorite tracks on YouTube and create playlists which they can share later on. You have one iTunes library at home but you want to share it among different devices. Here’s how.

Your iTunes library may be stored on a PC or Mac at home, or it may be housed on a network drive. Either way, you want to be able to access it from other devices, like an iPhone or iPad.

Up to five of your devices can tap into your iTunes library either directly on a network drive, through a special app, or via a feature called Home Sharing. Through Home Sharing, you can share your iTunes music library from one machine and make it accessible to other devices as long as they’re all on the same network.

One important point: Directly retrieving your library on a network drive through an app gives you access to music, videos, files, and other content. Home Sharing only offers access to your iTunes music. Let’s look at several ways you can share your iTunes library.

Network Attached Storage (NAS)

First, if you’ve set up your own home network, one option is to store your iTunes library on your network drive. When you set up iTunes from a computer, you create your library file on the network drive, aka network-attached storage (NAS), rather than on your local hard drive. Setting it up this way automatically makes your library available to any computer that can directly access the network. The one drawback here is that you need special apps on your iPhone or iPad to tap into your NAS, but that’s pretty simple with the right software.

Through such apps as FileBrowser from Stratospherix Ltd and Remote File Manager from Jane Zhang, you can set up a connection to your NAS and then browse and play the content in your iTunes library. You simply choose the option to connect to a NAS, enter the IP address, username, and password for the NAS, and the app should automatically connect to it. From there, click on the setting for your NAS and then navigate to the content in your iTunes library.

Click on a song, video, or other file, then open it within the app.

Home Sharing

To enable Home Sharing, open iTunes on your computer. Click on the File menu and scroll to Home Sharing. Then click on the option to “Turn On Home Sharing.”

Now Click on the Edit menu and then select Preferences.

At the Preferences window, click on the Sharing tab. Click on the checkbox to “Share my library on my local network.” Choose whether you want to share your entire network or just selected playlists. Then select whether you want to enable a password. The last option for “Home Sharing computers and devices update play counts” keeps tabs on how many times you play a particular song, which can be useful if you wish to compile a playlist of your favorite tunes. Click OK.

To access your music from another computer via Home Sharing, open iTunes on that computer. Click on the drop-down menu at the top of the screen that lets you switch among your music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and other iTunes content. At the bottom of that menu, you should see your library listed as a destination. Click on the name of your library.

You’ll now be able to access all the music from your library.

To use Home Sharing from an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Music. Scroll to the bottom of the Music screen until you see the category for Home Sharing. If you see a link to “Sign in,” click on it and choose your Apple ID. If your ID already appears, then you can leave this setting as is.

Now open the Music app on your iOS device. You should see Home Sharing listed as one of the categories in your Library.

Click on the link for Home Sharing and then click on the name of your library.

Your iTunes music library should then appear with access to all albums.

Spotify this morning announced a new way for you to share music with friends (or fans, if you’re an artist) — by way of a new Facebook Stories integration that includes 15-second song previews. Viewers can also optionally tap on the “Play on Spotify” button in the Story to be redirected to the Spotify app to hear more.

The feature is designed largely with artists and their teams in mind, as it gives them another way to promote their new music across Facebook’s social network. Musicians and their managers often today use the Spotify app’s sharing feature to post their content across social media, including to Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, and elsewhere.

Last year, Spotify introduced a way to share music to Instagram Stories, including their albums, tracks, and playlists, as part of Facebook’s announcement that it was opening up sharing to Facebook and Instagram Stories from other, third-party apps.

At the time, the company said an integration with Facebook Stories was coming soon.

Since its launch on Instagram, the sharing feature has been mutually beneficial for both Spotify and Instagram alike, as it made users’ Stories more engaging while also sending traffic back to the Spotify app for further music discovery.

There’s likely not as much demand for sharing to Facebook Stories, however.

In order to share the 15-second clips to Facebook Stories, you’ll tap the “Share” button from the Spotify app and choose Facebook as the destination.

Side note: We’re not seeing the option to share to News Feed as the picture Spotify published shows (see above. Instead, tapping “Facebook” launches you right into the Story interface, as shown in the tweet above.

You can then customize your Story as you would normally using the Story editing tools and post it to your profile. Viewers will get to hear the 15-second song clip, and can then tap to go to Spotify to hear more.

Spotify had offered Facebook Story sharing in the past, but the access was later pulled.

These song previews only work when you’re sharing a single track to Stories. If you choose to share other content, like albums, playlists, or an artist profile page, viewers can click into that content, but won’t hear any preview, Spotify says.

Tap once on the toggle right next to “Show on My Profile and in Search” for making your playlist visible on your profile. Now, just tap “Done” to confirm your action.

That’s pretty much all you need to do in order to share your Apple Music playlists with your friends and other users.

The recipient who receives your shared playlist must also be subscribed to the Apple Music streaming service in order to playback the full song. However, if they aren’t a subscriber, they can still listen to a 30-second preview of each and every song in the playlist, which in most cases should be good enough to get a rough idea of the song.

Considering how Apple is pursuing the idea of socializing music and “Music + Friends” perhaps to compete against the likes of Spotify, we might expect Apple to add more features to the Friends section in the music app down the line. As of now, you’re limited to being able to see what your friends are listening to, view their shared playlists, and following your contacts though.

Do you know there is no need for you to transfer all music to iPad especially when you want only some of songs on your huge iTunes library? Yeah, you may have known this: if your music collection has been added onto your iTunes library, then you can turn on the iPad home sharing as well as the iTunes home sharing, then you can easily enjoy your music collection without taking up the storage space on your new iPad.

Part 1: Share iTunes music on iPad

To enable the home sharing both on new iPad and iTunes (Mac iTunes for example), you can follow this:

1. Hook your iPad and iTunes into the same Wi-Fi network;
2. Enable iTunes home sharing: on the left column of your iTunes, go to Shared -> click Home Sharing -> enter your Apple ID -> Create Home Share;
3. Enable iPad home sharing: go to Setting -> tap on iPod icon on the left-hand column -> enter the same Apple ID just used for iTunes home sharing.

Now, you can access your iTunes music on iPad using the iPod app.

Note: The iTunes have to keep running on your Mac when you enjoy music on your iPad.

Part 2: Share other iPhone, iPod, iPad music on your own iPad

To enjoy music on other iOS devices like iPod, iPhone on your iPad, you can use dr.fone for Mac to directly copy music to iPad. This program runs on Mac OS system up to MacOS 10.12 Sierra(10.9 Mavericks and Mountain Lion included) and can transfer songs among multiple iOS devices and Mac for free (taking transfer iPod music to iPad for example, and note that only supports iPod touch):

Step 1. Connect both iPad and iPod to your Mac with 2 USB cables at the same time; Launch dr.fone and open the iPod media library first. And iPod information will be shown on the main interface.

Step 2. Click the Music tab and you can see the music from your iPod will be displayed in the window. To transfer music to another device, you can check the music you want to transfer and right-click on them, choosing Export >> Export to (name of the other device). It will start transferring. Or you can directly click the Export option as shown in the picture. Alternatively, if you want to transfer the whole playlist, you have to right-click on the playlist displayed in the left menus to transfer it.

Apple has made a small but incredibly useful change in iOS 13: the ability to share audio between two pairs of AirPods.

That sounds like a fairly simple new feature, but it’s basically been on the wishlists of many AirPods users since the wireless Bluetooth headphones first debuted a couple years ago.

How to Use It

The feature does basically what it sounds like it does. You can stream audio from one device to two sets of AirPods — including movies, music, YouTube videos and more.

Both pairs of AirPods will show up under the AirPlay 2 control center will play whatever is playing on the connected device. It’s a bit like the modern equivalent of handing a second earbud to a friend to share what you’re listening to. But this way, everyone just pops in their own set of AirPods.

Here’s how to use it.

Automatic Pairing

First off, the audio sharing feature is going to be extremely easy to enable. Technically, it’s supposed to work like this.

1. Bring two devices running iOS 13 close together.
2. You should see a new pop-up asking if you’d like to share audio appear. There’s a “Share Audio” and a “Cancel” button.
3. Tap the Share Audio button and you’re done.

On the other hand, this automatic detection does not appear to be supported in the first beta build of iOS 13. Presumably, it’ll be added in a future beta version (and, of course, it’ll be in the final release).

Manual Pairing

If you want to test out the feature now, there is a manual pairing option. It isn’t nearly as simple, but it’s a way for you to try out the feature in iOS 13 beta 1.

Presumably, this method will also stick round as a fallback in case automatic detection doesn’t work in the final release of iOS 13.

1. Connect your own pair of AirPods with your iPhone.
2. Navigate to Settings > Bluetooth.
3. On the second set of AirPods, hold down the pairing button.
4. The second AirPods should now appear under the “Other devices” Bluetooth menu.
5. Tap on the second set of AirPods.
6. At this point, you should see both sets of AirPods under the “Connected” list of devices.

Essentially, it’s just connecting two pairs of AirPods to a single device — something that hasn’t been available in past versions of iOS.

Compatibility

Most modern iOS and iPadOS devices should support the audio sharing feature as long as they can support iOS 13. But here’s a list of compatible devices that you can double-check.

1. iPhone 8 or later.
2. 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation or later)
3. 11-inch iPad Pro
4. 10.5-inch iPad Pro
5. iPad (5th gen)
6. iPad Air (3rd gen)
7. iPad mini (5th gen)
8. iPod touch (7th gen)

Apple also says users will be able to share audio to both AirPods and PowerBeats Pro.

There’s something almost uniquely intimate about sharing a set of headphones: two people in close proximity, sealed off from the world, listening to something everyone around them cannot hear. Happy memories of the 1990s, there.

As with many tech experiences of the past, you can now recreate this in a better form. Audio Sharing, a feature added to iOS 13 and iPadOS 13, lets you output audio from an iPhone or iPad to two sets of AirPods or Apple Beats headphones at once.

With Audio Sharing you can share the audio without sharing the earwax, and both get the full stereo effect of your individual headphones. And you’re not tied together by a wire any more, although you’re quite at liberty to see next to each other if you like.

What do I need?

First of all you need a compatible – which is to say, pretty recent – iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and this device needs to be running iOS 13.1 or iPadOS 13.1 or later. (Here’s how to get iOS 13.)

In terms of iPhones, the 8, 8 Plus, X, XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max all support Audio Sharing.

The 9.7in iPads from 2017 and 2018, iPad 10.2in, iPad mini (2019), iPad Air (2019), and any iPad Pro from 2017 or later are compatible with the feature.

Finally, the seventh-gen iPod touch works too.

The headphones also need to fit the requirements. Despite the feature being referred to in some contexts as Audio Sharing With AirPods, it isn’t restricted to the AirPods, but it does require each participant to be using a set of headphones with one of Apple’s H1 or W1 chips.

That means any AirPod or AirPod Pro model, plus the Beats Solo3 Wireless and Studio3 Wireless, BeatsX, Powerbeats3 Wireless and Powerbeats Pro. If in doubt, check the tech specs and look for an H1 or W1 processor.

How to share audio with a second pair of AirPods

1. First make sure your headphones are connected to your iPhone or iPad as normal.
2. To set up Audio Sharing, get your friend to bring their AirPods (in the charging case) close to your iPhone or iPad, and then open the lid of the case. A dialogue will pop up reading ‘Temporarily Share Audio’. Tap this.
3. Follow the instructions that follow. At one point you’ll have to press and hold the button on the back of the case, but don’t be alarmed: you’re not resetting the AirPods, or setting up a permanent connection. It’s all temporary.

What if they’re listening to something else?

Ah. If the second pair of AirPods is currently in use, the method is a little different.

Start up the audio you wish to share. From the Now Playing screen – you can view this in Music, or from the widget in Control Centre, accessible by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen – you should tap the AirPlay icon, and then hit Share Audio. The other person will have to tap Join on their device.

Sharing with Beats headphones

The method above works for AirPods and AirPods. Things are slightly different for Beats headphones.

Turn on the Beats and connect them to their usual iPad or iPhone (not the one you’re going to be sharing audio from) in the usual way. Now press the power button on the Beats for about a second, and bring them close to your device. You should see a Temporarily Share Audio option pop up; tap this to activate the feature.

Using the Audio Sharing feature

Be aware that you are now controlling the audio running to the second pair of headphones as well as your own. This includes, by default, the volume level; try not to deafen them by turning it up.

Handily, it is possible to adjust the volume on the two sets of headphones separately. To do this, open Control Centre and do a hard/long press on the volume slider. This will then pop out into a larger widget showing two separate volume controls.

How to turn off Audio Sharing

Tap the AirPlay icon on the Music app’s Now Playing screen (or in Control Centre or on the lock screen) and then tap the tick next to the other person’s pair of headphones. This will end the connection and turn off Audio Sharing.

How to share your Apple Music subscription through a Family Plan

Before sharing your subscription with others, you’ll have to sign up for Apple Music’s Family Plan. The subscription costs $14.99 per month, as opposed to the regular $9.99 subscription.

If you’re signing up for Apple Music for the first time, here’s how to sign up for the Family Plan. If you already have a subscription, you can skip this section.

1. Open the Music app on your iPhone or iPad, and tap “For You” at the bottom of the screen.

2. On the page that opens, tap the red “Try It Now” button.

3. Select “Family,” and then tap “Start Trial.” You’ll be asked to sign in with your Apple ID, or using Face or Touch ID, and you might have to add a payment method.

If you already have a subscription, or if you haven’t already done it, you’ll have to turn on Family Sharing.

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, and then tap your name at the top of the screen to open your Apple ID profile.

2. On this screen, tap “Set Up Family Sharing.” In the pop-op that appears, tap “Get Started” to continue, or “Learn more about Family Sharing” for more information.

3. You’ll be presented with a number of ways to use Family Sharing. Tap “Apple Music.”

4. Your device will check that you’re signed up for a Family Plan — if you aren’t, you’ll be redirected back to the Music app to sign up for one. If you’re signed up, tap the red “Invite via Messages” button.

5. This will open a text message conversation, where you can send the Family Plan invitation to anyone with an Apple ID.

As soon as they open the invitation, they’ll be added to your account. You can add up to six people to the account, including yourself.

If someone that already has an Apple Music account joins your Family Plan, their account will be closed automatically.
