Google Home is one of the most popular smart speakers of our time. Google home can pull music from all the big names in the industry, like its own YouTube music, Raumfeld, Google Play, Netflix, Pandora, Polk, and Spotify among others. One big player is, however, missing from the list above, so one might ask “can I play Apple Music on Google Home?” The good news is that by the stroke of luck, the power of Bluetooth makes it possible to listen to Apple Music on Google Home.

Apart from using Bluetooth to play Apple Music on Google Home, Apple Music can be downloaded and played offline in various formats. This, however, requires the use of third-party audio converting software to help remove the FairPlay DRM protection that Apple Music comes with. It’s only then that you’ll manage to play Apple Music songs on non-Apple devices. One such provider is TuneIf Audio Converter, an industry leader in converting music to various audio platforms without compromising audio quality. In this article, we outlined two methods you can use to cast Apple Music to Google Home.

Pocket-lint

(Pocket-lint) – There’s a feature on Google Home and Google Nest speakers and displays that allows you to pair a Bluetooth speaker to them so music and audio plays through the Bluetooth speaker by default, rather than the Google Home or Nest speaker or display.

The feature, which works on any of the Google Home and Google Nest speakers and smart displays is particularly useful if you own the Home Mini or Nest Mini. They are affordable, compact speakers that support Google Assistant and can process your commands, but they aren’t ideal for playing music as they are quite small. Thanks to this feature though, you can essentially amp up the sound by connecting them to another Bluetooth speaker.

“Any of your Google Home devices can connect to other Bluetooth speakers so you can control your entertainment experience simply using the sound of your voice,” Google explained. You can even add multiple Bluetooth speakers to Google Home groups for multi-room audio.

Here’s what you need to know.

How to make any Google Home or Nest speaker play music through a Bluetooth speaker

Here’s how to get your Google Home or Nest speaker paired up with a Bluetooth speaker and get your music playing through the Bluetooth speaker by default.

Pair and connect a Bluetooth speaker and Google Home or Nest speaker or display

First, pair your Bluetooth speaker with your Google Home or Nest device. You need to open the Google Home app on your mobile device, then head to device settings, and follow the instructions below to make it your default speaker and get the Bluetooth speaker paired up.

  1. Turn on your Bluetooth speaker and make sure it’s in pairing mode (press the pairing button on your speaker, if possible).
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Find the Google Home or Nest speaker you want to pair with a Bluetooth speaker in the list of rooms.
  4. Tap on the speaker or display and then tap the settings cog in the top right corner
  5. Tap on Audio
  6. Then Tap on Default music speaker
  7. You’ll then see Pair Bluetooth Speaker
  8. Tap on this and it will start scanning for devices
  9. Tap the speaker you want to pair.
  10. Tap Done.

If you want to add your Bluetooth speaker to an audio group via the Google Home or Nest speaker device it’s connected to, here’s how.

Ask Assistant to play music

Now, you can say things like, “Hey Google, shuffle my date night playlist” or “Hey Google, turn down the volume.” The music should automatically play on your Bluetooth speaker – without you having to tell Google the name of the device. You’ll still need to talk to your Google Home or Nest device, rather than your Bluetooth speakers, to ask Assistant questions, getting weather updates, and using other commands.

How to stream music to your google home over bluetooth

If you want to stream music in your home, you need three things: a device to stream music from, access to digital music, and a speaker to stream your music to. If you love using Spotify, you can use it as a primary player for your whole-home audio system.

Then all you need is Sonos, Bose, or another connected speaker system!

What is Google Play Music?

Google Play Music is a hub for enjoying your music on and offline. Upload 50,000 tracks to your Google Play account and stream or download them to your favourite devices whenever you like. Stream music through Google Play’s curated radio stations and receive song recommendations based on your interests. And, all of this comes with your FREE account!

If you opt for the $9.99 monthly subscription service, you can stream or download any of the 35 million tunes in the Google Play Music library. If you live in the U.S., you’ll also enjoy an ad-free YouTube experience as Youtube Red is included with your Google Play Music subscription.

If you want to stream it through your whole house, you’ll need Sonos, Bose, or another connected speaker system.

What is YouTube Music?

YouTube Music is Google’s latest stab at a music streaming service, centered around playing music, rather than being an audio-focused version of YouTube that it used to be. It offers proper albums, playlists, and, if you want, videos, just like Google Play Music and other streaming services. There’s also the YouTube Mixtape, playlist automatically generated based on your favorite artists, songs that you listen to frequently, and new recommendations. Google puts a lot of emphasis on its use artificial intelligence in the service to provide you with a “lean back” experience.

YouTube Music can be used for free with ads, while $9.99 per month will let you listen to music ad-free. For $11.99 per month, an additional $2, you’ll also have access to YouTube Premium, which offers ad-free videos and YouTube Originals, among other things. Current Google Play Music subscribers will be able to use the ad-free version of YouTube Music at no extra cost.

What devices can I use Google Play Music and YouTube Music on?

Both the Google Play Music and YouTube Music apps are available on Android and iOS devices or you can login to a web browser to listen online on your Mac or PC.

If the device you are using has Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, you’ll be able to stream either service from your device to a wireless speaker, which is the first step in streaming audio throughout your home!

What speakers can I use Google Play Music and YouTube Music with?

There’s a short answer and a long answer to this. Short answer: if you have a Bluetooth speaker you can use Google Play Music or Youtube Music from any Bluetooth-enabled device. Long answer: if you want to listen to Google Play Music in every room of your house, you’ll need a better speaker. Given the recency of YouTube Music’s launch, it might take some time for it to become available on the major whole-home speaker systems.

If you have an old stereo kicking around, you can modernize it with a Bluetooth upgrade kit or you can pick up just about any Bluetooth speaker, depending on your budget and the quality you’re looking for.

There are also Wi-Fi speaker options, which you will have better range than Bluetooth speakers, though, depending on the size of your house, this may not matter.

The above options are great if you want to stream music from one speaker in one room. But, what if you want to stream music to every room in your house? If that’s the case you’ll want to look at speakers that connect to form a home-wide sound system.

While the Bose Soundtouch speaker system does allow you to connect and control multiple speakers throughout your home, it does not have direct streaming from Google Play Music. You can use the Bluetooth functionality of the Bose speakers to stream directly to a particular speaker, but if you’re looking for a direct-play solution, consider the Sonos family of speakers.

Sonos

Sonos speakers use your home’s existing Wi-Fi to create the Sonosnet, an independent wireless network where your Sonos speakers communicate and share audio.

The Sonos Controller app integrates with Google Play Music so you can add music and create playlists and also control which music is played in which rooms. Don’t like the Controller app? No problem! You can control all your music directly from Google Play Music and manage it on your Sonos sound system.

Note: In order to use Google Play Music with the Sonos Controller App, you will need to have a paid subscription; the free account won’t work.

Google Play Music in your home

Depending on how immersive of a system you want to create, you have a lot of options for enjoying Google Play Music, while options are still limited for YouTube Music. If you want a cost-effective system and only need to stream in one room of your home, there are a lot of inexpensive Bluetooth speaker options.

If you want to connect every room in your home and control it all from an app on your phone, consider starting with one or two Sonos speakers and adding new ones as you’d like to expand.

Google’s music services offer a lot of value for such an extensive music library and some pretty cool features. Pairing your Google Play Music membership with the right set of speakers can help you enjoy wireless music streaming in your home.

Here’s a complete step by step guide on how to pair iPhone, iPad or Android with Google Home over Bluetooth for streaming music.

Google Home is Not Just an Assistant, You Can Also Use it as a Bluetooth Speaker for Streaming Music from Your Phone or Tablet

At Google I/O last year, the company announced that it was bringing Bluetooth pairing support to Google Home. And it did so by pushing a software update to Google Home over the air. This meant that you were not limited to what the Google Home offered out of the box as you could use the device as a Bluetooth speaker too. So, with that being said, in today’s guide we’ll show our readers how they can pair their phone or tablet with Google Home and stream some tunes the way they like.

How to Pair with Google Home Using Bluetooth

There are two ways you can go about this process. Either you can use the Google Home app (iOS/Android) or you can use your voice to initiate the pairing process. We are going to cover both.

Using the Google Home App

Note: You must be on the asme WiFi network as your Google Home in order for this to work.

1. Assuming you have downloaded the app and you are signed in with your account, launch Google Home from your home screen.

2. Now tap on the ‘Devices’ button on the top right hand corner. It’s the little icon that looks like a small speaker.

3. If you have multiple Google Home devices at home, find the one to which you want to pair with. Now tap on the three ‘dots’ icon on the top right hand corner.

Wrap up

If you’re asking me, I’d go with the second option of using your voice to pair with Google Home. It’s easy, quick and gets the job done in a matter of seconds. But, eventually, you will turn towards the Google Home app if you are going to manage your paired devices. There’s no getting around it.

How to stream music to your google home over bluetooth

Last month, our APK Insight revealed that Google Home was working on letting users pair their Assistant device to Bluetooth speakers for a multi-room audio setup. This extension of the smart speaker’s existing Bluetooth capabilities is now rolling out today.

At the moment, users can stream music from a phone, tablet, or computer to a Google Home over Bluetooth. That connectivity now works both ways with Home able to pair and stream music to other speakers. Best of all, multiple speakers can be paired together, similar to audio groups with Chromecasts.

Now any of your Google Home devices can connect to other Bluetooth speakers so you can control your entertainment experience simply using the sound of your voice. Turn up the beats in the living room, listen to a podcast while you cook or finish a few chapters of your audiobook before bed—even in rooms that don’t have a Google device.

This provides the advantage of being able to control multiple speakers through Google Home with voice commands or via the app. Google notes that this was a highly asked for feature from Google Home Mini users that wanted to extend the sound from their tiny device.

To setup, users can pair any Bluetooth speaker with Google Home and then head to the companion app to set it as the default. Afterwards, any command given to the Assistant device will automatically play audio through the set speaker without having to specify.

Bluetooth pairing works on all devices in the Google Home family, including the Mini and the Max. However, Google reminds users that they still need to talk to Home, not the connected Bluetooth device.
