How to view saved passwords in chrome for android

Aren’t saved passwords great? No more racking your brain to remember obscure login credentials or locking yourself out of your account after too many failed login attempts due to typos. These are especially common inconveniences if you have a decently strong password with non-dictionary terms, uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. But the problem with the luxury and ease of saved passwords is that after months, perhaps years of relying on saved and auto-filled login credentials, you just plum forget what your passwords are.
Viewing and Deleting Saved Google Chrome Passwords
Google Chrome saves passwords used in web forms and log ins. You can manage these saved passwords as well as view them (to jog your memory) from within Google Chrome’s Options menu.
Step One
Launch Google Chrome. Click on the Wrench icon in the top-right and Click Options.
Step Two
Click the Personal Stuff tab. Scroll down to Passwords and Click Managed saved passwords…
Step Three
This will display all of the passwords that Google Chrome has saved. When you first view them, the password values will be masked. But you can display them by selecting a login and Clicking Show.
If you are at all paranoid about your security and privacy, this is immediately problematic for obvious reasons. A good solution : Tell Google Chrome to Never save passwords.
Or, you can go through and delete individual passwords by Clicking the X next to each one. This is something you should do if you accidentally saved your password on a friend’s computer or a public PC.
Backing Up Google Chrome Saved Passwords
If you are on a trusted computer and don’t mind saving your passwords, Google Chrome’s password management feature can actually be pretty useful. Your saved passwords are kept in a file called “Login Data” in Google Chrome’s App Data folder. You can back this up, save it to a thumbdrive and copy it to a new computer in order to transfer your saved passwords. This is also handy if you plan on re-installing Chrome, but don’t want to lose all your saved passwords.

Close all Google Chrome windows. Then, navigate to the Google Chrome AppData folder in Windows Explorer. Usually, this is at:

Locate the Login Data file. Click and Drag it to another location, such as your desktop, your Dropbox folder or a thumbdrive.

You don’t have to, but it’s a good idea to Rename the file to something that denotes it as a backup. I like “login data.bk”.
There. Now, in order to restore your Google Chrome saved passwords from your backup file, simply hunt down your Login Data.bk file and rename it back to “Login Data”. Then, copy it back into the AppData folder I showed up above, overwriting the exiting Login Data file. (Note: This will delete any saved passwords on the current installation, but if it’s a brand new install, then this is a non-issue.)
That all being said, a much better and more secure solution is to use a dedicated password manager, such as LastPass, password corral or password safe and sync your passwords with dropbox. But that’s another groovyPost for another time!

Google Chrome occasionally offers to save passwords as users type them into websites. Android owners can quickly access, delete, and export saved passwords through the mobile browser. Here’s how to view your saved passwords on your smartphone.
View Saved Passwords
Start by opening the “Chrome” browser on your smartphone. If the app isn’t located on your homescreen, you can swipe up to access your app drawer and launch Chrome from there.
Next, tap on the three vertical dots. Depending on your version of Chrome, these are either in the top-right or bottom-right corner of the screen.
Select “Settings” near the bottom of the pop-up menu.
Locate and tap on “Passwords” partway down the list.
Within the password menu, you can scroll through all of your saved passwords. The list is sorted in alphabetical order based on the website’s URL.
Select a saved password to view more details.
To view the hidden password, start by tapping on the eye icon next to the hidden password.
Next, before it’s displayed, you will have to authenticate yourself using your fingerprint or whatever lockscreen security you have set up.
And that’s it! Your password should now be displayed in plaintext. After you verify that it’s you, the password will also be copied to your clipboard.
Alternatively, you can tap on the box icon next to the site, username, or password field to copy them to your clipboard. You will need to authenticate with your fingerprint or lockscreen security to copy your password.
Delete Saved Passwords
If you changed your password, or if you don’t want Chrome to store a password, you can quickly delete it.
Starting back at the Passwords menu (Chrome > Three dots > Settings > Passwords), select the item you want to modify.
Delete the saved password by tapping on the trash can-shaped icon in the top-right corner.
Note: The moment you tap on the “Delete” button, the item will be removed permanently. You don’t get a confirmation screen or a way to undo the action.
Export Saved Passwords
If you’re deleting your Google account and want to save your saved passwords, you can export everything to view elsewhere. Start in the Passwords menu (Chrome > Three dots > Settings > Passwords) and then tap on the three dots in the top-right corner.
Select “Export Passwords.”
Authenticate that it’s you exporting the saved passwords using your fingerprint or whatever lockscreen security you have set up.
A share sheet will now appear, offering you several ways to save and send the exported document. Select a secure location to store your exported passwords.
Be careful where you store this document as the exported passwords are viewable as plaintext. This means anyone can see your usernames and associated passwords if they got their hands on the export.

Is there any way I can retrieve stored password specific to any URL in Google Chrome for Android. This is not in any way connected with Google Chrome running in Desktop versions. I’m able to see saved password in Google Chrome in Desktop but not in Android version. Please Help. Thanks in Advance.

In Windows, if you open Manage password in Chrome, then it asks for a master password (i.e. Windows Admin password) to view and manage your passwords. But that’s not the case in Android. So for security purposes, Chrome for Android doesn’t reveal the password.
From Greenbot: Saving your passwords to your device presents some obvious security issues. Although Chrome won’t show your password, all bets are off If someone gets ahold of your phone—they’ll be able to log into any account that Chrome remembers. If you choose to have Chrome remember your passwords, you’ll also want to set a passcode on your phone—or better yet, encrypt your device—to reduce the risk of your Internet accounts falling onto the wrong hands.
Based on this help link, to manage you password in Chrome browser for Android,
- Open the Chrome app.
- Touch Chrome menu Menu.
- Touch Settings > Save passwords.
- Touch the link for Manage saved passwords in your Google Account.
However, following the above steps only reveals the username and the website URL and you can delete the password but not view it. In order to manage/view your passwords from any device/browser, visit and re-enter you Google account password to login and to view all your saved passwords (except your currently signed in Google account password won’t be displayed) if,
- you’ve signed in to Chrome and saved passwords or
- you’re using Google Smart Lock for Passwords on Android
Click on the specific website and select the eye symbol to reveal the password for that particular site.

One of the many great things about using Chrome as your primary browser across devices is that all your saved passwords get synced. That takes away the hassle of having to enter long and complex passwords while using Chrome on your Android device, which can be a real pain sometimes. Accessing Chrome for Android’s password manager
It’s hardly a challenge to find the password manager inside of Chrome. Check out this quick picture guide below:
Open the Chrome browser app on your device. Navigate to the top right corner and tap the options button, following which you have to select ‘Settings’ from the list of options. Select the ‘Save passwords’ option from the menu, flip the button and enable the feature if it isn’t enabled already.

At any given point, you can choose to toggle the ‘Save passwords’ feature off so that Chrome stops prompting you whenever you log in to a website with new credentials, or log in to a new website altogether. Seeing how cumbersome it can get to repeatedly enter passwords, not to mention having to remember all of them, it is almost a no-brainer to leave this feature enabled.
The fields that have been redacted in the screenshots aren’t actually the passwords, but only the usernames against which Chrome has saved passwords.
Viewing/managing saved passwords in Chrome for Android
Unfortunately, using the Chrome for Android app, it is not possible to actually view your saved passwords. You can however see the list of websites and the corresponding usernames for which Chrome has saved your passwords. As of yet, you can only view passwords using the Chrome desktop app.
Chrome for Android’s password manager is rudimentary at best, as described earlier. You can’t modify a saved password, or perform any other operations on it. The only option that the browser presents to you is the ability to delete a saved password. So in case you accidentally saved a password on a friend’s phone, or for a webpage that you didn’t intend to, you can always fire up the password manager and delete that last saved entry.

One of the prominent features missing in Google Chrome for Android was the ability to view saved passwords. This has been a feature in the desktop version of Chrome for quite a while, but hasn’t been a part of the Android app until now. Luckily, that’s no longer the case as Google has addressed this limitation by introducing the ability in Chrome 62.
Now, for the first time, Chrome for Android users have the ability to view stored passwords. Before this, users who wished to view the saved passwords had to go to the official Google passwords website and re-authenticate themselves with their Google password. It goes without saying that it would only work for those who were already signed in to Chrome with their Google account. In Chrome 62, users no longer need to sign in to Chrome to view saved passwords.
Chrome will ask to save your login usernames and passwords for the various websites you visit. If and when you consent to save them, it will automatically complete the sign-in fields for you the next time you visit the respective websites. This feature obviates the hassle of remembering different usernames/passwords and of manually filling out the login form. This also helps people who don’t prefer using party apps for saving their usernames and passwords.
The specific steps to manage and view the saved passwords in Chrome are:
- Open the Google Chrome app.
- Touch Chrome menu
- Touch Settings > Save passwords.
Under the passwords there will be a list of websites associated to your saved passwords. Users can view the saved passwords by tapping on the respective websites and copy them as per their convenience. The saved password can be deleted by clicking on the trash icon on top right-hand side of the screen.
Note that this will only be visible when the option of save password is ticked to “on”. The other point to be noted is that users will be asked to confirm their lock screen security before they can view a saved password. Users can only view their saved passwords if they have enabled lock screen security in the first place. As a security measure, Google also does not allow users to take screenshot of passwords in text format.
It should also be noted that saving your passwords to your device presents some obvious security issues. If someone gets a hold of your device and has access to your device’s lock screen security, then they will be able to log into any account that Google Chrome remembers, consequently endangering your privacy and security.

On the new page, Locate and tap on “Passwords” partway down the list to view websites of the saved passwords. In the Passwords menu, scroll through the list all of your saved passwords to select a saved password to view more details. Tap the password entry you want to view and then tap the eye (view icon) to be able to view the hidden password.
After tapping on the view icon, you will be prompted be to authenticate yourself using your fingerprint, Pattern or security pin code that is set up on your Android device lock screen to be able to view the password of the site you selected.
after you verify that it’s you by putting the security lock, your password will now be displayed in plaintext. And there you have it, all of your passwords saved in Chrome on the Android platform. So, if you’re on the go and can’t remember one of those passwords, you might find it in the browser’s settings window.
How to delete saved Passwords
In case you don’t want Chrome to store a password, or you want to delete one for a website where you changed the password so that chrome can save the site with the new password, you can quickly delete it.
Following steps 1-4, Chrome >> Three dots >> Settings >> Passwords, select the saved website password you want to delete or modify. You can delete the saved password by tapping on the trash can-shaped icon in the top-right corner.
The password will also be copied to your clipboard, or you can tap on the box icon next to the site, username, or password field to copy them to your clipboard. You will need to authenticate with your fingerprint or lock screen security to copy your password.
