Ian Brady Cause Of Death

Brady died on 15th May 2017 at the age of 79 at Ashworth Hospital, Maghull, England due to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease that affected his lungs. According to sources, he was being fed through a tube after he began his hunger strike in 1999.

He reportedly pulled out that tube just a few days before his death. He was found a psychopath and was confined at Ashworth Hospital under high security since 1985. He had received end-of-life care in the hospital and was reported bedridden for the last two years before he died.

Brady was born on 2nd January 1938 in Glasgow, Scotland. His real name was Ian Ducan Stewart. He was later adopted by his foster parents and sifted to Pollok where he was admitted to Shawlands Academy. He, however, left the academy and started working as a tea boy when he was only fifteen years old.

Brady was never married, however, he was in a relationship with Myra Hindley together with whom, he committed several murders afterward.

They met at their workplace at Millwards where Brady did a clerical job and Hindley joined as a typist. They soon became attracted to one another and started going on dates in December 1961. They used to visit the library together and would often take pictures of each other.

Before that, Brady was previously in a relationship with a girl named Evelyn Grant, but they broke up when he reportedly threatened her with a knife. Brady had no children of his own.

After Brady was sent to Ashworth Hospital, he never wished to be released and asked for death. His final wish was that he wanted his ashes to be scattered on the Saddleworth moors where he had killed and buried several of his victims. However, his wish was banned by a judge. His ashes were later scattered in the Irish sea.

Just a few hours before he died, he asked to hand over two locked briefcases placed around his bedside to his lawyer Robin Makin and urged them to be opened only after his death.

Brady was born to Margaret “Peggy” Stewart (mother), his father’s name is not known. Her mother was a tea room waitress and was not married when she gave birth to Brady.

As per his mother, his father was a reporter for a newspaper in Glasgow who passed away three months before Brady’s birth. However, after just a few months of being born, Stewart had Brady adopted by a couple named Mary and John Sloan.

Her mother married later Patrick Brady, a fruit merchant, and Brady started living with them before he turned 17. At that time, he began working as a fruit porter.

Brady was arrested several times before on several occasions since he was in school. However, after committing five murders, Brady and his partner Hindley were finally arrested in October 1965 when their accomplice David Smith who was Hindley’s brother-in-law, called the police after the couple killed their fifth and final victim. They were sentenced to life imprisonment on a whole life tariff.
