An Illinois state lawmaker is fighting to make infertility treatment more accessible.
State Senator Cristina Castro is pushing a bill that would require insurance companies to cover all costs of preservation treatments for women. The bill would cover any patient, not just those diagnosed with infertility. State-sponsored plans don’t cover all the options right now, but a separate bill would require businesses with 25 or more employees to cover the treatments.
Some insurance companies don’t cover these procedures, or they require you to go through other tests before getting them. A third bill would eliminate those obstacles if a doctor recommends the procedures.
