A bill in Iowa to remove the civil rights protection for transgender people failed in the State Capitol.

The proposed legislation, HF 2082, failed in subcommittee by a unanimous vote. The proposal would have removed gender identity as a protected class under Iowa’s civil rights law. It would have reclassified being transgender as a disability.
