He passed away at the age of 88 in Mexico City, Mexico on 25 March 2023. His death reason was abdominal complications. His death news was announced on his Twitter page,

“This is a very sad morning, Xavier López, Chabelo, father, brother, and husband has left us suddenly, due to abdominal complications.”

This tweet was followed by a statement from his family,

“With a torn soul and knowing that many and many people have loved him for many years and that they will feel his departure, we ask you to pray for his rest and give us the opportunity to spend in peace the mourning that overwhelms our entire family.”

Background

Xavier Lopez Chabelo was born on 17 February 1935 to Mexican parents in Chicago, Illinois, United States before the family moved to Mexico and settled in Leon, Guanajuato. He was selected into the US Army. He served on a military base in Califronia before moving to Mexico. He was survived by his wife Teresita Miranda and his children.
