Katharine Hope McPhee is an American singer-songwriter and actress who was born on March 25, 1984. In May 2006, she finished second on the fifth season of American Idol.

McPhee began her acting career as a co-star in The House Bunny and Shark Night 3D. Furthermore, she portrayed Karen Cartwright, one of the main characters on Smash.

Katharine played Paige Dineen in CBS’ Scorpion from 2014 to 2018 and made her Broadway debut as Jenna in the musical Waitress in 2018.

She married record producer David Foster in June 2018. A year later, on June 28, 2019, they married at St. Yeghiche Armenian Apostolic Church in Kensington, London. McPhee gave birth to a son on February 22, 2021.

In February 2022, she described her mental health struggles after gaining weight during her pregnancy.

On Friday, Foster, 74, posted an Instagram video of his 2-year-old son, Rennie David, playing the drums.

The toddler wears black headphones and bangs out a drum solo, impressively keeping time with the song as his father sits nearby, proudly watching.

Nonetheless, Katharine McPhee Foster’s toddler is on his way to becoming the next great drummer.

This is not the first time the proud parents have shared a video of their son having a good time. The Smash actress, 39, shared a video of her son jamming on a drumset while barefoot and wearing noise-cancelling headphones in October.

The American Idol alum and her husband discussed their son’s musical abilities in an interview in October 2022.

“We believe [he will be musical], but we are not certain,” Foster said. “Kids, strangely, will do something for a while, then it will amaze you, and then they just drop it and stop doing it.”

“So we do not know if the drumming thing is here to stay—to tell you the truth, I would rather he had a tennis racket in his hand than a drumstick,” he continued. “However, if he ends up being a drummer, that would be fantastic.” He enjoys watching JR Robinson, our drummer.”

The singer-actress and her husband previously praised Rennie’s musical abilities in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“It makes sense that he would be musical,” McPhee and Foster told the outlet. “He is crazy about drums!”

Nonetheless, Foster stated that their son is too “young” to know if he will follow in their footsteps in the music industry.

“When you look at the little champs of athletes Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, they are multi-talented, but they are far away from tennis, so you can’t make any predictions,” he added.
