Tish Cyrus has filed for divorce from her husband of 28 years, Billy Ray Cyrus.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the actress and producer filed for divorce in Tennessee last week, listing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason.

She reportedly claimed that the pair, who have five children, haven’t lived together for more than two years and asked the court to equally distribute all of their assets.

Inside their relationship

The power couple met in early 1990s whilst Tish was married to drummer Baxter Neal Helson Billy Ray was married to Cindy Smith.

Tish gave birth to their first daughter, Miley Cyrus, in 1992, shortly after they met. Then, they got married on December 28th 1993.

The pair welcomed their second child together, Braison Chance Cyrus, in 1994, before having Noah Lindsey in 2000.

Billy also has a son from his previous marriage, Christopher Cody, and Tish had two children, Trace and Brandi Cyrus, who the musician adopted.

The famous couple almost divorced twice, with Billy filing for divorce in October 2010 and Tish wanting to end their marriage in June 2013.

Both times, the pair managed to reconcile things and call of their divorce. However, things appear to have turned sour again in 2022.

Billy and Tish address divorce

In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Billy and Tish have spoken out about their divorce.

“It is after 30 years, five amazing children and a lifetime of memories, we have decided to go our separate ways — not with sadness, but with love in our hearts,” they said.

“We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of, and it is now time to create our own paths. We will always be family and look forward to a continued and loving shared experience as friends and parents,” they continued.

The pair revealed that the decisions was not taken “lightly or quickly” before saying: “With so much going on in the world, we wanted to provide some clarity and closure, so we can remain focused on what is important.”

At the time of wiring this, Billy and Tish have not addressed the divorce on social media.
