A 41-year-old man is in custody after officers allege he pushed a 6-year-old child from a van he stole in 2020.

Amos Bradford III, of Fort Wayne, Ind., faces felony charges of first-degree theft and assault while participating in a felony, court records show.

About 11 p.m. Feb. 15, 2020, officers responded to Walmart, 5811 Elmore Ave., Davenport, for a report of a stolen van.

Officers allege Bradford took a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica – a rental car – from a victim without permission. Bradford “is not on the rental agreement and does not have any right to the possession of the vehicle,” which is valued at over $10,000, according to arrest affidavits.

While he was taking the van, Bradford “attempted to assault the victim,” officers say in affidavits. “Additionally, he pushed the victim’s six year old … from the vehicle as he was driving away. No injuries were reported,” affidavits say.

The incident was captured on surveillance video and was reviewed by officers.

Bradford, who was arrested on a warrant, is being held on a total $13,000 cash-only bond in Scott County Jail, is set for arraignment Thursday in Scott County Court.
