Player Bio

A left-handed player, this youngster plays as a left fielder for the Houston Astros. He was born in Bellevue, Washington, on May 15, 1987, and went to Fort Pierce Central High School in Fort Pierce, Florida. The son of Mickey Brantley, a former MLB star, our player began playing the sport when he was just seven years old. Although he had intended to go to Coastal Carolina University and play college baseball for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, he changed his mind after being selected as the 205th overall player in round seven of the 2005 edition of the MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. Dr Smooth (his nickname) signed with the Brewers and started his professional journey with the Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League. Whilst with the Milwaukee based team, he's also played for the Arizona Brewers of the Arizona League, the West Virginia Power of Class A South Atlantic League, and the Huntsville Stars of the Class AA Southern League. Traded to the Cleveland Indians in December 2008, he continued his minor league journey with the Columbus Clippers of the Class AAA International League before making his MLB debut for the Cleveland Indians on September 1, 2009, against the Detroit Tigers. A five-time All-Star, this young man remained with them till December 2018 when he signed with the Astros.
