What are the chances that the My Life as Inukai-san’s Dog anime adaptation is renewed for season 2, as fans countdown to the finale?
Undoubtedly the most controversial anime from the 2023 Winter anime slate, My Life as Inukai-san’s Dog is certainly not a series that everyone can enjoy.
That being said, the series has surprisingly been able to maintain a solid fanbase each week, never straying too far away from the headlines one way or another.
Whilst My Life as Inukai-san’s Dog has not yet been renewed for season 2, the anime does have enough source material available for a potential second date – here is everything that fans need to know.

“Pochita was told by the school’s mad scientist, Sakihira Inari, why he had been turned into a dog. Inari had used Pochita and Mr Inukai as experimental subjects and monitored their entire lives. Pochita is upset with Inari, who thinks of Mr Inukai as nothing more than a guinea pig, and is informed of a way to turn himself back into a human…”

My Life as Inukai-san’s Dog season 2 explored
As previously noted, My Life as Inukai-san’s Dog has not yet been renewed for season 2 and whilst the controversial nature of the series throws doubt into the mix, the anime adaptation certainly has plenty of source material left to adapt.
In total, season 1 episode 12, and the two remaining OVA episodes (set to release as part of the Blu-Ray DVD boxset in April) are expected to adapt up until the conclusion of manga volume 4.
The good news is that as of March 2023, a total of eight complete manga volumes have been published in Japan; meaning that there should be enough source material available to start production on season 2 straight away.
The issue here comes from popularity; specifically, whether or not Studio Quad deems the returns high enough to merit the resources needed to produce a second season.
Whilst the series has suffered from poor user scores (including a 5.17/10 on MyAnimeList, 2.7/5 on Anime Planet, and 50% on Anilist), the anime has certainly found its niche audience, especially with domestic viewers.
Another thing that My Life as Inukai-san’s Dog season 2 has going is the fact that the series streamed on HiDive; a growing anime streaming platform that continues to expand licensed content. This means that should HiDive view the series simulcast as a financial success, it could encourage Studio Quad to renew My Life as Inukai-san’s Dog for season 2 in Japan.
Overall, we are uniquely split on whether the chances of renewal are above average or not. The controversial nature of the story is potentially either its saving grace (considering manga material) or final sentencing (considering international ratings), but time will tell whether Pochita returns for a second date.
