Navy National Defense Cadet Corps

The Navy National Defense Cadet Corps is a forerunner program for the Navy JROTC. Both programs strive for the same mission to instill ideals of leadership, character, honor, and service. Frisco ISD looks forward to growing the NNDCC program and applying to become a NJROTC unit in the future.

Program Overview

As part of the program, students will take courses that meet both classroom learning objectives as well as physical fitness goals. Students will be given opportunities to serve their community, become leaders in their class, and participate in area competitions.

The NNDCC program is a program of choice and is housed at Lebanon Trail High School. Students applying for admission to the program in the 2023-2024 school year will be required to attend LTHS as full-time students. Transportation is the responsibility of each student and their family.

UIL Implications/Guidelines

All UIL (including Music and Academics) except Athletics

A student entering the NNDCC program at Lebanon Trail High School will be eligible immediately to participate in all UIL activities excluding Varsity Athletics.
If a student withdraws from the NNDCC program and returns to his or her home campus, he/she will not lose eligibility for UIL activities except athletics. Although UIL eligibility is retained, qualification in activities is not guaranteed to follow the student to the home campus.

Varsity Athletics

A student who applies for admission at the first opportunity, is admitted into the NNDCC program, and transfers to Lebanon Trail High School at the first opportunity, will retain his or her eligibility for varsity UIL competition and may participate immediately.
First opportunity includes:
- returning FISD students who have submitted an admission form in their eighth grade year and transferred to Lebanon Trail High School immediately following admission into the program.
- New FISD students who are admitted into the program prior to establishing residency at another FISD high school.
A student whose parents live in Frisco ISD and did not choose to apply for admission in the NNDCC program at his/her first opportunity, and enters the program at a later time, is ineligible for varsity athletic competition until he/she has been enrolled in and regularly attending Lebanon Trail High School for at least the previous calendar year.
If a student withdraws from the NNDCC program and returns to their home campus, he/she will be ineligible for varsity athletic competition until they have been enrolled in and regularly attending their home campus for at least the previous calendar year.
A student who withdraws from the NNDCC program at the end of the first semester of their junior year and chooses to stay at Lebanon Trail High School will retain UIL eligibility for varsity athletics.

Courses

The program consists of four ROTC courses that cover a wide range of topics. See a description of each of the Naval Science courses below.

Naval Science 1

This course is an introduction to the meaning of citizenship. Students will learn the elements of leadership, the value of scholarship in attaining life goals, the importance of a healthy lifestyle, how to control stress, principles of first aid, and an overview of Naval ships and aircraft. These elements are presented at the fundamental level.

Naval Science 2

This course builds on the principles discussed in Naval Science 1. The course introduces Cadets to the technical areas of naval science and the role of the U.S. Navy in maritime history.

Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I, World War II, Cold War Era
Introduction to Nautical Sciences
Maritime Geography, Oceanography, Meteorology, Astronomy, Physical Sciences

Naval Science 3

Broadens the understanding of students in operative principles of military leadership. Students learn about teamwork, using order and discipline to accomplish objectives. Students gain a more in-depth knowledge of Naval ships and aircraft. Marine navigation and seamanship is introduced.

Naval Science 4

This course focuses on practical leadership. Students in this course will have the opportunity to lead under supervision. Students will have the opportunity to work with other junior Cadets as mentors and leaders. There is a strong emphasis on preparation for life after high school.
