He was a part of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference from 1987 to 1989. In 1987, Shannon was named player of the year for the SIAC. He was also chosen as a Kodak Division II All-American in the same year.
In 1988 and 1989, he led his college football team to 7-3 and 8-1 records. His total score for college was 3,744 yards and 40 touchdowns.
