Teresa Gomez Las Cruces Obituary: In loving memory of grandma shot dead by Las Cruces police officer.

Startling newly-released footage shows a Los Cruces police officer shooting a New Mexico grandmother to death as she tried to speed away in her car.

Early on October 3, shortly before 5 a.m., officer Felipe Hernandez—an eight-year veteran of the force—killed 45-year-old Teresa Gomez.

Gomez, who had parked her car at a housing complex with her friend, Julio Garcia, was talking to the police.

Hernandez seemed to know Garcia from prior interactions and seemed to be aware that Garcia had been banned from the property. He started accusing him of breaking a judge’s order and trespassing.

The officer can then be heard speaking to Gomez in nine minutes of bodycam footage as he attempts to determine why she is at the housing complex.

The officer can be heard being belligerent throughout the exchange, using foul language and threatening to “tase” her and make her life “a living hell” if she didn’t cooperate with his inquiry.

Gomez mentioned that she was seeking for someone at the spot as she described her quest for her misplaced car keys.

The officer said her passenger wasn’t permitted to be there and started to probe their reason for being outside the public housing complex.

Gomez clarified that she was not aware of any special visiting regulations, remaining composed throughout the conversation.

The grandma was requested to exit her vehicle so that the officer could question her, and she did so without any problems. Gomez eventually located her car keys and got the officer’s okay to get back in the driver’s seat.

However, a few moments afterward, she opened the automobile door, turned on the motor, and retracted from her parking space. In response, Hernandez repeatedly yelled at her to halt before firing three times, at least hitting Gomez.

Gomez was having trouble breathing and started to bleed from her neck. After being brought to a hospital, her injuries ultimately claimed her life.
