In a news conference on Monday, state police Capt. Lucas Anthony informed reporters that Thomas Rath, a 34-year-old individual, had been abducted and subsequently murdered within a span of 24 hours. According to NBC News, it has been reported that Rath has announced the arrest of 10 individuals, while also stating that there will be additional arrests in the near future.
According to the police captain, Mr. Rath was identified as the victim. In the eyes of his family, he was not just a man, but a loving father, a caring brother, and a cherished son. In Ithaca, New York, Rath was residing in a camp situated behind a Lowe’s hardware store when authorities claim that he was subjected to a kidnapping incident.
Rath resided in an area commonly referred to by locals as “The Jungle.” According to police officials, an extensive search was carried out over the summer in pursuit of Rath. Multiple residences were meticulously searched, with over 40 search warrants being executed.
Additionally, authorities conducted over 100 interviews in their relentless efforts to locate Rath. According to local WXHC, New York State Police Officer Jeffery VanAuken has described the investigation as uncovering a deeply troubling and shocking sequence of incidents that ultimately led to the abduction and murder of Mr. Rath.
According to Anthony, Rath’s remains were discovered in Candour, New York, approximately 20 miles south of Ithaca. He described the burial site as a shallow grave.
In a significant development, authorities have apprehended ten individuals in connection with the abduction and subsequent murder of an Ithaca resident who had been missing since the month of May.
According to a news release from the New York State Police, two individuals, Angelo Baez, 48, and Jonathan Glennon, 31, have been apprehended and are now facing charges of second-degree murder. Additionally, Baez is also being charged with felony kidnapping.
According to authorities, a total of eight individuals, whose ages span from 27 to 52, have been apprehended and formally accused of the crime of kidnapping. According to the police, the initial arrest took place on August 16, and they have indicated that additional arrests will be made “in the coming weeks.”
