After 25 years of marriage, James Hetfield, the lead singer of Metallica, has reportedly filed for a divorce from his wife, Francesca. Sources close to the couple told TMZ that the divorce was filed earlier this year in Colorado.

But the filing was never made public because the ex-couple kept the news from the public. Insiders also told the magazine that the two are still in touch because they are co-stars.

James met Francesca in 1992, and they got married in 1997. They have the same 18-year-old son, Castor, and 20-year-old daughters, Cali and Marcella (16). According to reports, the musician and his family lived in Vail, Colorado, which is also Francesca’s hometown.

Francesca Hetfield is from the United States. She was born in Rosario, Argentina, on January 27, 1970.

Francesca didn’t go to college after she finished high school. Instead, she worked as a waitress at a bar near her home. She finally got a job in the costume design business when she was 23 years old.

ABTC says that Francesca has a net worth of around $1 million. She made most of her money by working as a costume designer. Reports say that she met her husband James when she worked as a designer for his heavy metal band Metallica.

Even though James and Francesca got married in 1992, they mostly kept their private lives out of the public eye. But the second one was often seen on tour with her husband and even showed up in the Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster from 2004.

James Hetfield has always been open about the fact that he used drugs and drank too much in the past. During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience in 2017, the musician talked about how he went to rehab almost 20 years ago because he was afraid he would lose his family:

“Fear was a big reason why I did that. The thing that scared me the most was losing my family. That was the lowest point for me: thinking that my family would leave me because of the bad habits I brought home from the road.

He also said that Francesca “kicked” him out of the house and made him go to therapy to deal with his problems:

“My wife kicked me out of the house, so I was living alone somewhere. That was not what I wanted… My wife did the right thing when she kicked me out of the house, which scared me to death. She said, “Hey, you’re not just going to talk about this with your therapist now.” You have to go somewhere and figure out what’s going on.’ So I did just that.”

James Hetfield has stayed sober since 2002, according to reports. He had said before that Francesca helped him face his own problems in a “constructive” way. In 2005, the performer even told NPR that his wife helped him “grow up” when he stopped using drugs and dealt with his anger issues in a “straight-edge” way.

James and Francesca Hetfield’s relationship ended earlier this year, but they haven’t said anything in public about getting a divorce yet.
