She was known for being an animal rights activist and a vegan. Her autobiography was the best-selling non-fiction book of 2017 in Brazil.

Her autobiography’s title is Rita Lee: Uma Autobiografia. She passed away at the age of 75 on 8 May 2023 in Sao Paulo, Brazil because of suffering from lung cancer.
