GoFundMe Scammer Katelyn McClure Was Sentenced To Prison
Katelyn McClure and her boyfriend Mark D’Amico created a story about a helpless woman and started to raise money from the people for helping helpless men by creating a GoFundMe account. More than $14000 people donated to the account and Katelyn and her boyfriend used this month for purchasing vehicles and living lifestyles.
That helpless man’s name is Johnny Bobbitt Jr. who is a Veteran. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as a paramedic and firefighter in Marine. Once, Johnny gave his last $20 to help Katelyn for buying gas for her car on a Philadelphia highway in 2017.
She listened to his story and she started to promote his story on social media to raise funds for helping him. She wrote,
“We found Johnny’s Facebook page, and I just wanted to share some photos with you guys to give you a glimpse into his life before this happened.”
“Johnny is a veteran of the US Marine Corps and was a firefighter/paramedic. This is just a reminder that this could happen to any of us. Thank you all again so much for sharing and donating.”
Johnny sued the couple for not giving him the money. Katelyn raised $400k and used it for personal things.
This is the story that was promoted by Katelyn whereas she met Johnny near a Philadelphia casino in October 2017 before promoting their story. She promoted this story through local and national media interviews.
When Johnny sued the couple by accusing them of not giving him the money then Law enforcement began investigating and the couple was arrested. Mark pleaded guilty to federal charges. He was selected in April for 27 months in prison because of being the group’s ringleader.
Johnny was also involved in this scam so he was sentenced to 5 years. Katelyn was sentenced to prison for one year on 21 July 2022.
