Masanori Aoki is a 31-year-old man, who has been arrested in connection with the shooting and knife attack in Japan’s Nagano Prefecture that left 4 people dead. Masanori Aoki is the son of Masamichi Aoki, who is the speaker of the city assembly in Nakano.

On 26 May 2023, Japanese police arrested Masanori Aoki who had holed up in a building after reportedly killing 4 people, including 2 police officers, in a gun and knife attack.

They also confirmed a 4th fatality overnight, which is an elderly female who was found wounded at the scene and later pronounced dead.

Another female and 2 police officers were earlier confirmed dead in the attack.

Masanori Aoki is the 31-year-old man, who went on a rampage and brutally shot 2 policemen with a hunting rifle on Thursday 25 May 2023. He also stabbed 2 women to death.

Police got a call just before 4.30 pm on Thursday about a man killing a female in the city. The eyewitness told the police that he was employed in a field when he shows the suspect chasing a female before killing her with a blade.

When the eyewitness asked the suspect Masanori Aoki why he had done such a thing, Masanori replied, “I killed her because I wanted to.”

The eyewitness also told the police that he was wearing camouflage clothing, a hat, sunglasses, and a mask at the time of the attack.

:ater, he shot 2 police officers who were stationed nearby before walking toward his father’s home.

He later killed an elderly female in front of the hose before barricading himself inside the home for so many hours.

The suspect was in the end taken into custody. The motive behind the rampage and shooting was not known.

Meanwhile, in a press conference on Friday, NPSC (National Public Safety Commission) chief Koichi Tani said that he had received permission from the prefecture’s public safety commission to possess a hunting gun and an air gun.

Masanori Aoki is not contesting the charge and adding 100 officers are investigating the case.

This killing in a rural area of Japan was a rare instance of violent crime in Japan, which has a low murder rate and some of the world’s toughest gun laws.

So many local media reported Masanori Aoki is the son of the speaker of Nakano’s city assembly, and lived with his parents and aunt in the house where he stayed overnight.
