Flounder voice actor Jacob Tremblay first rose to prominence with 2015's "Room." Based on Emma Donoghue's novel of the same name, the film features Tremblay as a young boy raised in captivity, who escapes his prison-like room alongside his mother (Brie Larson). The Oscar-nominated tear-jerker turned the 8-year-old Tremblay into an overnight sensation, leading to several award nominations.
His most notable post-"Room" gig was 2017's box office sleeper hit "Wonder," which sees Tremblay step into the shoes of Auggie, a boy with Treacher Collins syndrome trying to fit in at school. Tremblay headlined the film alongside Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, who played his parents. The actor stepped out of his comfort zone in 2018, starring in Canadian auteur Xavier Dolan's complex "The Death & Life of John F. Donovan." Horror fans will also remember Tremblay from Mike Flanagan's adaptation of "Doctor Sleep," which sees him star in a pivotal scene alongside Rebecca Ferguson's devilish Rose the Hat.
Tremblay later dabbled with Disney by voicing the titular character in Pixar's "Luca." The star is quite the accomplished voice actor, having lent his talents to "Harley Quinn" and "American Dad!" With a number of memorable performances under his belt, it's no surprise that he's headlining "The Little Mermaid" opposite Halle Bailey.
While speaking with Screen Rant, Tremblay opened up about how it was important for him to retain Flounder's niceties for the remake. "I want to stay true to the original one because I feel like the most important part of his character is how loyal he is and how friendly he is," the actor said. "So obviously, I had to make sure that that's very prevalent, but then making it my own was the easy part."
