Will Ernestine Die? Is Loretta Devine Leaving P-Valley?

Ernestine, played by Loretta Devine, is one of the most important recurring characters in the drama series P-Valley, which airs on Starz. She is always at The Pynk because she is Uncle Clifford’s grandmother. She helps and gives advice to the strippers there.

Uncle Clifford even runs the club, which Ernestine used to sing at, as a tribute to her. Ernestine’s health gets worse in the second season, which takes place during the Covid-19 pandemic, because she gets coronavirus disease. The Covid-19 pandemic has a big effect on Chucalissa. Pastor Patrice Woodbine started a food bank because a lot of families have trouble getting enough food. Places like The Pynk are often forced to close. But things get worse when several people in Chucalissa die, including Mayor Tydell Ruffin. Ernestine doesn’t have to wait long to get the coronavirus disease. She is more likely to get sick because she is getting older, and her fever will eventually make her lose her mind. In the seventh episode of the second season, when her fever gets really bad, she runs away from her house to the nearby river.

Ernestine’s death may not come as a surprise, given how old she was and how bad her health was. In the same episode, she dreams of her dead daughter, who invites her to the land of the dead. Even though Ernestine is able to send her away, the dream could be a sign of what will happen to her soon. Lil Murda asks Clifford to say goodbye to her grandmother after seeing how sick Ernestine is. This is another sign that Clifford’s grandmother may have died. Clifford’s emotional ups and downs show that she knows Ernestine will soon die, too.

Taking all of these things into account, Ernestine may die in one of the next episodes of the second season. We can also count on Lil Murda to be there for Clifford while she deals with the possible death of Ernestine. The death of the character could even be a plot point that makes it possible for Clifford and Lil Murda to get back together when the rapper comforts his ex-partner. Since Ernestine’s death is a real possibility, viewers must be wondering if this could be Loretta Devine’s chance to leave the show. Well, let’s find out.

Does Loretta Devine plan to leave P-Valley?

As of right now, neither Starz nor Loretta Devine has said anything about the actress leaving “P-Valley.” Devine may leave the drama series before the end of the second season, though, because of Ernestine’s health and the chance that the character will die. If Ernestine dies, the character’s story arc will be over, and Devine may leave the show. Since the character isn’t likely to show up in flashbacks, one of the next episodes of the second season may be the last time we see Devine.
